I understand that when I apply to UCSD I will need to rank the colleges from the one I'm most interested in to the one that I'm least interested in. If I want to major in biochemistry and, hopefully, get into pharmacy school, what should my ranking of the colleges be?

Your major and your ranking of each college won’t matter much.

Oh okay, so does that mean my ranking of each college will not affect my chances of getting into UCSD?

No. It just will effect what courses you have to take in school

Meant in the nicest way possible, PLEASE search the archives, you can find tons of information about all of the colleges.

Science related majors go to Revelle, but going to Revelle will require you to stay a year longer (most cases).

I would choose a college that is easier than Revelle, like Muir or Marshall.

Even Sixth would be better, since you get to finish the college GEs quicker than Revelle.

search the ucsd web page to see the requirements for each college and pick which you like the best

i <3 revelle

Revelle states that they only have about 5 percent more science majors than the other colleges. My daughter’s roommate is a history major in Revelle. Where did you get the information about the extra year (in most cases). I heard that Muir has the easiest requirements AND the longest graduation times! I don’t know if that is true but I trust my source, a recent involved and successful grad of UCSD. A frequent contributor here was out of Revelle in 3.5 years, so anything is possible.

^Exactly… being in revelle (or ERC for that matter) does not necessarily mean you will graduate in 5 years. If you stay on top of your GE’s you can easily get them done and graduate in 4.

I could have graduated in 3 years or less at Muir. Maybe some people just choose to do a double major and that’s why they take longer?

It’s really a matter of two things: 1) # of AP/CC units you come in with 2) how on top of things you are (picking the right classes, passing them, etc.)

Revelle students generally take up to 5 years to graduate only talking about bio majors here. Other majors can graduate in 4 years or less.

Revelle GEs are generally more difficult than most of the 6 colleges.

I never said all the colleges at UCSD require 4+ years to graduate, just those with science majors, mostly bio and are in Revelle, generally take 5 years to graduate.

it just depends on the person/ap credit/major(s)/minor like i_lose said

Im a Revelle student, and yes its going to take me 5 years to graduate. mostly its because im a bioe major and a japanese minor, and there is one class i need to take spring of my sr year that got pushed back a year because of poor scheduling

My roommate (also a Revelle student) is graduating this fall, so for her it only took 2 years and a quarter to graduate and be off to law school

If you want to major in biochemistry from the biology department, make sure you select that as your major since it might be impacted again. In other words, if you decide to switch to a different biology major, it’ll be a lot harder to if you’re a non-bio major.
