Which colleges confuse you the most?

I don't get how people could confuse Penn and Penn State. It seems like it would be pretty easy to figure out which is the state school.

OK, now let's look at some schools next door in West Virginia:

(1) Marshall University
(2) Mountain State University

Which is the public school, and which is the private school ?

Answers:

Marshall University is a state university.
Mountain State University is private.

But how many regular people know that? How many regular people wouldn't confused IUP with IU or UP?

[/quote]

Actually, when I was applying for undergrad, I applied to IU but due to living in PA, everyone (I mean everyone) was confused and thought I was applying to IUP. It annoyed the crap out of me!

So which is more prestigious:

Indiana University of Pennsylvania ? or
California University of Pennsylvania ?

I agree that IUP is traditionally thought of as more 'prestigous' than CUP in Pa, but they are both on approximately the same level being Pa state schools but CUP is one of only two state schools in Pa that offers tech ed.

It always irks me when people mistake BC for BU.

Yeah, because BU is such a bad school right? /sarcasm

But yeah, people make that mistake alot. ****es me off.

Kean University [NJ] and Keene State College [NH]

And apparently one is pronounced "cane," but hmmm.

Harvard University and Harvard College. Still not been able to figure out if Harvard college is a seperate entity or part of Harvard University..

i think harvard college is the term for undergrad school. the whole sebang with med school, law school, etc. is the university.

They are the same.
