I'm a new user, and this is my first post, so I'm not sure if this is in the right section. But anyways, I'm going to be a junior in high school this September, and I just had a couple questions. I will list some stuff about myself first:
- Most recent SAT (practice) I got a 2070 (630 in reading/760 in math/680 in writing). These are my highest reading and writing scores (sadly), but I am taking classes this summer to improve. My highest Math score is a 790, which I received on the SAT before this recent one, and I got a 2010 on that.
- On my recent PSAT I got a 208 (October of 2012), 64 in Reading and writing and 80 in Math
- At the end of Sophomore year, my unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale is a 3.774647887, and my weighted is a 3.964788732. My school uses a 4.3 scale so I did the conversions myself (yes I used the right conversions and calculated properly).
- I am looking to major in Economics, or Political Science/Political Economy, since these majors interest me.
- I will be taking 2 AP courses next year (AP Chem and APUSH) and 4 in the following year (AP Calc AB or BC, AP Physics B, AP Italian V, and either AP Gov or AP Micro)

Basically, what I'm asking is, which colleges should I be looking at (specifically), and which colleges do I have a chance to get into based on my current path. I understand that nothing is definite since I still need my final GPA, AP Scores, and SAT Scores, but I'm just trying to plan ahead. Thanks a lot!

You have good skills and can get into 90% of the colleges in the country. Look through any college data source and check the selectivity rating of the school. If its greater than 50%, and you stay on track, you have an excellent chance of getting in. Between 20% - 50% selectivity I would say you have a fair chance. Below 20%…ivy leagues, etc…that’s a different ball game.

Thanks a lot, and I’ve already understood that I’m not going to Ivy, I just was wondering which kind of colleges to be aiming for.

Hopefully more people can respond…

Some updated info:
- On a recent practice SAT i got a 2200: 790 in math, 770 in writing, and 640 in critical reading
- The AP courses I am taking this year (junior) are AP chemistry and AP US History, for next year I will take AP Biology, AP Calc BC, AP Microeconomics, AP Gov (or AP Italian), and possible AP English Literature and Composition
- I am still interested in Economics and International Relations (maybe Political Science)
- I am going to be President of the Italian Club in my senior year, and the captain of my school’s Consumer Bowl (NJ) team

I am aiming for a higher college such as Georgetown, or University of Notre Dame, and wishing for extremely prestigious/Ivy League colleges like University of Chicago or UPenn. I understand my chances for the latter are slim to none, but I want to know my chances for the first few anyways. I would be grateful to anyone who can tell me my chances or give me advice. Also, what are some other colleges I can apply to for these majors with my stats?
