Which colleges require SATII?

Hi,

I was curious to know which colleges require you to take the SAT subject tests and which ones. I don't know if a thread for this has already been created or not but I just thought it would be really helpful to know so there won't be any surprises when I apply.

Thanks!

Go here for a list of colleges that require, recommend or consider SAT IIs [Compass: Admissions Requirements](<a href=“SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group”>SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group)
Colleges that require them require two; a couple (Georgetown and Johns Hopkins) that recommend but do not require them recommend three. As to which tests are needed, that depends on college and major. Generally, for most that require them you can submit any two as long as they are in different subjects (submitting math 1 and math 2 would only count as one) unless applying for engineering (and possibly science) in which case a math and science is often required (and you need to check which are required for that because some engineering colleges want the math 2 and some want the science to be chemistry or physics but not biology). MIT requires a math (1 or 2) and science of all applicants. Caltech requires math 2 and a science of all applicants. The UCs required SAT IIs this year but will no longer do so beginning next but will still have recommendations and math 2 and science will be recommended for engineering. The UCs do not accept the math 1 for any purpose. Stanford, which recommends but does not require SAT IIs, recommends the math 2 if you submit a math. Middlebury does not require SAT IIs but accepts three SAT IIs in lieu of the SAT; NYU does the same.

Thanks!!! That link is awesome and your personal response was even more so.
" Middlebury does not require SAT IIs but accepts three SAT IIs in lieu of the SAT; NYU does the same. " That is incredibility informative because are in my top list for schools to apply to.

And as I noted you should always check to see whether any particular subjects are required. Here are Middlebury’s and NYU’s explanation of their testing requirements: [Standardized Tests | Middlebury](<a href=“Standardized Tests | Middlebury College”>Standardized Tests | Middlebury College)

Some schools have requirements. It is generally encouraged that at least one of your subject tests be Math I or II, and the other test(s) should be in subjects that you do well in or intend to pursue in college.

Some colleges have different requirements for different programs. They might have a school-wide policy of no required subject tests, but two are required for the engineering school, or maybe you need a literature subject test if you have indicated that you will be an English major. Look into the requirements for exactly what it is that you are applying for, not just the requirements for the institution as a whole.
