Which colleges would accept me?

Hi. I am an international student coming from Romania, and I am going to graduate from high school in 2013.

Here is my profile:

I. SAT I:
-taken on May 5th, 2012
-total score 1950
-writing: 680 - essay: 8
-critical reading: 570
-maths: 700

II. SAT II:
-taken on June 2nd, 2012
-took 3 tests: Maths I, Physics, French
-Maths I: 650
-Physics: 680
-French: 540 :(
-will probably reseat the exam in October to get at least 700 on Maths I and Physics (I won't send my French score)

III. TOEFL test:
-taken two times, first time in March and then in April
-first time score: 97/120, second time score: 101/120
-reading: 28/30
-listening: 25/30
-speaking 23/30
-writing: 25/30

IV. Average for 9th-11th grade: 9.53/10 (that would be a 3.81 GPA if I'm not wrong)
Class rank: 3/23
Class profile: mathematics/computer science - bilingual study (Romanian/English)
There are no AP equivalent courses available in our educational system whatsoever.

V. Extracurricular activities:
-student exchange program in the UK (2007-2008)
-regional and national English Olympiad (2008-2011) - two second prizes at the regional
-national creative Physics contest (2007-2012) - first prize in 2008, but got a prize every single year
-Model United Nations International conference (2010)
-Euroscola project (member of Parliament for a day at the EU Parliament in Strasbourg) (2011)
-member of the staff at Online Career Day conference (2012)
-nominated for Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute (2012) - didn't get in most likely because I told them I was planning to study in the US
-will host a photography exhibition in my school this fall
-owner of two websites (a news/blog site and a international shopping assist site)

VI. Hobbies and interests - not sure if they matter anyway:
-travelling
-photography
-psychology
-advertising
-information systems/telecommunications

VII. Background:
-divorced parents, live with mom, not in touch with dad
-household income: around 15.000$ per year (this is actually considered quite a lot around here)
-will need a good amount of financial aid (can't afford to pay more than 15.000$ per year)

I am looking to study in either of this areas:
-Information Science
-Telecommunications
-Advertising (photo/video)
-Civil Engineering - transportation

I have not yet made a definitive list of colleges, but here are the ones I might be interested in:
-Cornell University
-Georgetown University
-Johns Hopkins University
-George Washington University
-University of Maryland - Baltimore County
-University of Maryland - College Park
-Wake Forest University
-Boston College
-New York University
-University of Rochester
-Georgia Institute of Technology
-any other good college as close as possible to the Baltimore-Washington DC area which can offer financial aid

Any chances to get in any of these colleges? Will getting a 700+ on each of the SAT II's improve my chances? What other colleges should I look at?

Thanks a lot!

ummm… bump? :D

bump again

I’m no authority on this, but i’ll take a stab at it:

Your GPA is strong/competitive at all of these schools, and your extracurriculars look pretty decent too.

Your SAT scores are a bit too low, or in the lower part of the “acceptable” range, for the following schools:

Cornell University - likely too low
Georgetown University - likely too low
Johns Hopkins University - likely too low
Boston College - lower end of “acceptable”
New York University - likely too low
University of Rochester - lower end of “acceptable”
Georgia Institute of Technology - lower end of “acceptable”

To improve/solidify your chances at getting into those schools, you may want to make your SAT more competitive – re-take the SAT 1 and/or SAT 2s.

I think your SAT looks good for these:

-George Washington University
-University of Maryland - Baltimore County
-University of Maryland - College Park
-Wake Forest University

…and remember, that’s just the SAT. Your GPA and ECs seem to be pretty good.

Thanks for your response. Do you think that retaking just the SAT II and getting 700+ on each subject would improve my chances at any of these colleges? Also, can you recommend me any other matching colleges in or as close as possible to Maryland?

buuump…

Bump. Any chances for me to get into Colgate?

bumpbumpbump

NYU doesn’t even offer financial aid for international students. I suggest you really look into those schools that do. Starting point: top 50 liberal arts colleges usually do.

Thanks for your answer. What liberal arts colleges on the east coast would be a match for me?

bump bump bump

buuuuuuuuump
