Which of the CUNYs is best for creative writing at the graduate level?

As an applicant to CUNY’s graduate program in Journalism, it seems to me that there is only ONE CUNY for graduate work - The Graduate Center, although I could be mistaken.

List the ones you are considering, and I can probably tell you. Keep in mind that graduating from any M.F.A. program qualifies you to teach at the college/graduate level, but you won’t get a job unless you have the publications and awards to back it up. And don’t enter into an M.F.A. program believing that it will offer you the golden ticket to publication.

The CUNY I have heard mentioned most in this regard is Brooklyn College, with its MFA program in crative writing. Knew one fellow left his day job to attend and seems quite pleased though I know of no Pulitzer from him–yet! You can see from their Web site that there are some very acomplished writers on staff, including Pulitzer prize winning novelist Michael Cunningham (The Hours).

I think Queens College is also good. However, I don’t know enough about the CUNY system to know which colleges are part of it. Fiction is a good literary journal filled with experimental fiction that comes out of one of them, although I can’t remember which one.

Much depends on your personal interests as well – fiction, poetry, playwriting, etc.

I have heard that Hunter is very good, too. They’ve got Colum McCann on faculty.
