which department or program at MIT: do I have to choose an academic department?

"Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why? (*) (100 words or fewer)"

Does this question refer only to academic departments and programs, ex. "I'm interested in engineering" or "The business school is great", or can I refer to any department in MIT, whether it has lectures and courses or not?
I'm a huge fan of the MIT Media Lab, and I'd rather write about that than about any academic department.

The question is written to be intentionally broad, so I think you’re within the prompt if you write about the Media Lab.

At any rate, the Media Lab does offer classes (under the Program in Media Arts and Sciences), so it’s an academic unit as well as a research unit.

yes but I’m not interested in the academic part of the department, just the research part.

never mind. I searched the MAS program and it’s great.
