Last year was Gifford Hall--will apparently be different this year for those Honors College students who elect to live together as a Learning Community.

Does anyone know the name of the dorm?

Does anyone know the name of the dorm?

We were under the impression it would be the same dorm. Guess we can find out Friday during the Choices visit.

Hoffman is going to be the new site for JMU Honors learning community housing. Very Very small rooms.

any other info on the honors program? i was admitted but don't know when i'll be able to/if at all due to sports...

I would think that the biggest perk is early registration for classes.
Toughest part of program is the senior project which takes some of the kids 1.5-2 years to actually do.
Honors students are not required to live in the learning community. In fact only about 60 of them will be there.
There were also some opportunities for study abroad.

Some interesting stats... This year is the strongest applicant pool the university has ever seen. over 19,000 applicants. they have a planned freshman class in the upper 3XXX range.
Average GPA of admitted student was 3.5 and average GPA of admitted Honors students is 3.8. Those are un-weighted.
1000 applicants for the Honor's program. 200 accepted.

The honors program is very accommodating. They will be flexible with the honors requirements. If you do get in, they will work with you so that you can focus on your academics, sports, and honors requirements at a reasonable balance.

Gifford was the honors dorm, but it will be in Hoffman. It is currently being renovated and will be brand new for the incoming class of 2012.

I am a student a JMU, so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask and I will do my bet to answer them.
