Which dorm?

Freshmen can apply for housing soon. Assuming my DD will have some choice of which dorm to live in, which one do you recommend? I heard that one doesn’t have air conditioning…is that true?

Look here: http://www.stevens.edu/sit/residence-life/housing-options

Dorms are up top. If it says “upperclassmen” it is not for freshmen.

When you click on the housing name, it will bring you to a page that lists the features, such as A/C.

Davis Hall is the ‘closest’ to the academic building area, but all of the dorms are just a short walk away: it’s a small campus.

When my son chose freshmen housing, he was allowed to request building, floor, and even an actual room number on the online request form. They don’t promise you your first choice but my advice is to get your app in early and try to find out something about your requested hall so that you can make informed requests.

I thought althletes were housed in the building right on the river next to the main admin/cafeteria building?

No idea if athletes are housed together. You could probably call housing and ask them. They’re fairly helpful.

Looked at the housing app with DD after school today. DD was only given a choice of dorm building, but not floor or room. She could have specified a roommate, too, if she wanted.

@Epeemom‌ She had to answer a series of yes/no questions, and one of the questions was something to the effect of “are you a Steven’s athlete?” When we visited and talked to coach, I don’t recall anyone saying all the athletes were housed together.

Maybe the athletes get first choice for housing? The waiting for RD is almost unbearable

my daughter is a freshman athlete at Stevens and she is in a triple dorm at Castle Point - she is with another freshman athlete (same sport) and a non athlete - she had asked for her particular dorm because she wanted a view of the city - she got an AMAZING view! She also had sent a follow up e-mail to her request

My DD is in Davis facing NYC. The view is amazing. It is closest to the Engineering building. It is facing the Hudson, has 5 floors and has AC. Probably the most desirable dorm. Hayden is right next to it but only has 3 floors. Some only have winter views of the city due to trees. It does not have AC but it has a very nice common space on the first floor. They were supposed to put AC in Hayden last summer. Maybe it will get done this summer. The other slightly weird thing about Hayden is that the bathrooms are coed. There is no bathrooms on the boys floors. I don’t think it bothers the kids at all. Castle Point are all designed triples. There is one room with a tiny bump out for the third person. That dorm has AC.

The housing is a lottery. You can choose your own roommate and three choices for housing but you can’t choose city view. Really there are so many spaces on the campus to see the view I don’t think it is a big deal not to be able to see it from your dorm.

Good luck. I’m sure everyone will love Stevens.
