ok, so i'm still completely confused as to which to select [traditional v. apartment] for my dorm, since i'm RD and don't get a selection of which dorm i wanna be in...

i've seen pictures of brittany & hayden and they're pretty spacious and nice, but if i pick "traditional", hoping to get these, i could wind up in weinstein, which sucks majorly [i saw it @ u-day],

and u-hall and third north are nice because they're really spacious, but they're kinda far from campus, and i kinda wanna be near everything going on and everything, but if i opt for "apartment", i'm guaranteed a nice spacious dorm...

ahhh i duno either.. yeah apparently hayden was the nicest and all the ed kids wanted it.. but i saw it at uday and the rooms were tiny.. i was not impressed especially since housing is like $11k.. i wanted traditional but then i kinda want apartment style.. hmm idk.. whats everyone else going with?

i just applied for appt style, but hayden (traditional) is still like my second choice, bc its so nice and centrally located and all. im not too worried about the hike, especially with all the free shuttle services, but i don't want to end up in a shoebox or somewhere with no food.
ps--are you guys ed, or regular admissions? im confused about who's got housing forms now.

moderntimes, all the freshmen dorms are located by washington square park so no matter wat dorm you end up at, you'll be near all the other freshmen.

Bigred, not exactly. Weinstein, Hayden and Goddard are on WSP. Rubin and Brittany are 3+ blocks away. UHall is up by Union Sq. and 3rd N. is way over on, well, 3rd. None is particularly far in the grand scheme of things but they're not all exactly 'by WSP'. I agree that the walk isn't bad from any of them but somehow it seems that way I guess because you're in the city. It's different than having the same distance walk on a traditional campus. Perhaps because it's not like you can see the buildings from your dorm, ya know? Oh, and don't count on using the 'free shuttle services'. Unless you're at Water St. or one of the other ones you'll get stuck at sophomore year, no one does. When it comes down to it, you'll be fine wherever you're living next year. I have friends in every freshman dorm. Some are happy, some aren't, in every one of them. It's truly not the big deal that people make of it. There are so many other things which will influence what kind of a year you have next year more than what dorm you're living in. Relax! :)

Matth is right, and to clarify, U-hall is farther than Third North. Hayden rooms are hit or miss, some are definitely nicer and bigger than others. Hayden seems to be the most popular year after year and fills up fast. For RD kids don't back on it and if you don't want weinstein ask for apartment style.

Hm.. I had the same dilemma. I saw Weinstein (only really didn't like the green dim hallways..rooms were fine), Hayden (not as cool as I thought, but I like the breakfast nook) and UHall (my friend lives there now so she showed me)... it took us about 20 mins to walk from hayden to uhall (we weren't walking particularly fast) but it was definitely long. I can't imagine walking that long to and from class every day. She said she had major blisters orientation week or the first week or something. even though the rooms are really really nice, I figure I'll have that my soph, jr, and sen years (sophs get first pick starting next yr!) so I won't miss out on cooking for myself or having a living room... besides, I want a more 'community' feel my freshman year, so I really wouldn't mind living in weinstein (they do have quiznos right under them, too!) ... I also saw pix of brittany and it doesn't look bad at all. I'll probably put down traditional dorms on my housing form. I just hope I get a cool roommate and have a good RA :)

this was probably a bad idea, but i haven't looked into the housing thing at all...how does pricing differ or is housing 11k no matter what you choose/get? Can i find pictures of the different types of dorm rooms online? how bad is weinstein?

go to the info section, then to memories, and there are pics of most of them, and i went to u-day and visited a room on the 9th floor of weinstein for a tour and it was small as hell, but i'm considering going traditional anyway because i like the closeness and if my dorm is crappy, i'll just find a friend with a better one :D

if you get a low cost housing..is that always a triple? and if so, do you get a bigger room or the same sized room as a double..AND are the rooms worse in any way..like more filthier..smaller..etc.. someone help me out i need to know if its a good move to go with it

its the same size room, it just has three beds and three people share the living space. The quality isnt different from a double, it just has three bed, usually a bunk and a single

umm RD people do get to choose which building they want to live in. on the online housing form you get to rate your first choice pick to last choice.

my friend lives in uhall this year and she likes it, but she was telling me how no one really leaves their room. since every room has a living room you tend to just hang out in your room. whereas in traditional dorms ppl always leave their doors open and ppl are always going from room to room to hang out. much friendlier of an environment. thats something that is really important to me.
