Which engineering majors are easiest to switch into?

I’m applying for freshman admission and would like to know which engineering majors are easiest to switch into. I’m not sure what I want to do but am leaning toward Mech E. and EE/CS. I’m surprised that I have to lock into such a specific major before I even start college. My though was to select a more competitive major and then switch to the less competitive one if I decide to change down the road once I’m at the school.

Thanks for the insights!

All Engineering majors are competitive for UCB. Select the major you think you would like to pursue for the next few years.

I’m not sure if I can follow this logic. It’s more difficult to be admitted to more competitive major (and it’s difficult to be admitted to any engineering major in the first place). But you want to apply to a competitive major and (once admitted) switch into an easier (easiest) major?

As @Gumbymom stated, all engineering majors are competitive. Why messing around? Just apply to the one you want to pursue.

OP is undecided between ME and EECS and possibly others. So s/he is concerned about having to change major later if admitted to one of these majors.

However, the OP can apply as College of Engineering Undeclared (not College of Letters and Science Undeclared). This is described here:

@LakeClouds

My son was admitted as ME major and declared EECS (double major) after a year at Berkeley.
You can do that as long as you have decent grade.
His counselor basically told him that once he completed CS 61A and 61B and achieved 3.3 GPA in them, he could file the petition.
