Sr. kid got 25 on his ACT with zero prep, and 1190 (1650) SAT with no prep.

To me he's pretty far away from the really attractive scores so I am not sure how much prep he can do, but just curious with those two scores if you have to pick one to focus on which do think would be better? Time is of course running out I am not sure how much he can study while school is in session.

Just trying to bump. Not sure which score is better I figured he’d focus on the one that is better against average. I realize kids on here are more concerned about 33’s or more, I am just happy for him that he got a 25 without any study. Several over-achieving peers (grade-wise) still haven’t gotten to that, but I think he can do better.

Trouble is I don’t know what’s a better score against avg. the ACT or SAT.

According to ACT concordance 25 is 1130 to 1160, so SAT is higher. According to Eureka Review, 25 is 1740, so ACT is higher. My point is, those are roughly the same. I think it really depends on which one he felt more comfortable. Did he feel rushed on the SAT? Did he like the advanced Math and science on the ACT, or did he prefer trickier, but simpler math on the SAT? With such similar scores I’d say just pick whichever he “felt” the best about.

Thanks much I was kind of thinking they were roughly the same. I’ll speak with him about it, we are kind of thinking JUCO (for sports) so I am not sure how much the test scores will matter. I don’t think he’s going to be in the merit range, and he’s already in very good shape for a 2-year, but it could be possible to push that thing to a more attractive level.

A 1650 is more than 2-year level, he could go to a lot of public universities with that score, and if he boosts each section just 50-100 points he could be in 1800-1900 range, which is a great score for a lot of colleges. I personally think that I felt like I could increase more in SAT than ACT, just because a minute difference in ACT could mean changing 1 point to a 26, but a little studying could add at least 100 to the overall on the SAT, but maybe I’m crazy haha
