Which halls to live in?

Which halls are best to live in as freshman? East?

I think I'm gonna be living in East next year, from what I've heard its not the nicest as far as facilities go but its the best if you want the true freshman experience

east is where I chose to go. when I filled out my Room and food contract thing.

By the way what meal plan did you all choose like 1 to 5.

I really had no clue so I just checked 3.

the "freshman experience" is traditionally east halls, but if you want actually nice halls west and south (namely the honors dorms) are better. east is pretty much all freshmen, which can be good for meeting lots of people - the halls also tend to be noiser and not as clean. east is also a bit further away from most academic buildings.

I stayed at East for sports camps and other activities a few times. It's quite a walk if you need to be at buildings around Hammond (lots of engineering classes) or Williard (you'll have a class in Willard at some point, trust me). East isn't the nicest looking set of dorms, either; I personally see the West buildings everyday- they're much more appealing, as well as right next to Pattee library and the Mall. East Halls are very utilitarian and almost depressingly boxy, but they do have a fantastic quad with a volleyball court, and are located within 5 minutes of tennis courts, the McCoy natatorium, the White Building (gym facilities), the ice rink, etc. West is close to Rec Hall, a fairly old gym facility, but also has better access to the real heart (all 5 feet of it!) of downtown; the only dorms closer to College Avenue are Pollock, which I find pretty unpleasant. If you want to involve yourself with many frats, you'll want to be able to get downtown; if you find yourself wandering around, there's a totally random below-ground-level football field belonging to the school district behind the Post Office, as well as the newly build public library. Driving down College, you'll see these great Rocky-esque stairs, and an outcropping of brand new buildings, but don't get too excited- those are the new dorms for upperclassmen who chose to stay on campus. OK. I'm done now. :)
