which has a better reputation? skidmore vs nyu

Hi there,
I was just accepted to Skidmore and NYU undergraduate and was wondering which has the better reputation. My mom is hell bent on NYU but I know that Skidmore is also highly selective and wonderful as well.

help!

Did you hear from Skidmore today? If so, via email or regular mail? I wasn’t aware they’d released decisions yet.

I’d say it depends on what size school you want, location, etc. I’m pretty sure NYU is more prestigious, but Skidmore is a great school!

What exactly are you planning on going into?

Both are quite prestigious, but it really depends on what type of atmosphere you want from the school. Skidmore is about 1/20 the size of NYU (roughly), and its surrounding environment is entirely opposite that of NYU.

@Alisa: They’re starting to e-mail applicants decisions, but letters will be mailed out officially this Friday, I believe. Best of luck! :)

@Dramacratic: I thought they were only emailing the multicultural applicants their decisions?? I’ve gotten no emails (however, I’m white)…I’m getting nervous.

I don’t know. A friend of mine at school got an e-mail today telling er she got accepted, but made no mention of the multicultural event.

Don’t worry! Most of their decisions are being mailed out. In fact, I still haven’t gotten my official acceptance letter, which is to arrive by mail. They’re all getting mailed out on the 26th (received an e-mail from my potential science mentor over at Skid a little while ago), so you’ll get it in due time!

Is Skidmore your number one?? Breatheeeee :D

Ahhh, ok. I hope not all of their acceptances have already come out via email/mail – I’ve heard nothing. In fact, I think the only thing I’ve received from Skidmore is a few newsletter update emails/a “Creative Thought Matters” booklet in the mail.

Skidmore, BU and Columbia are my top 3. Columbia has been my dream since age 8. Soooo I am SUPER nervous :(

Well, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!! One of my best friends applied there and she still hasn’t heard back, so I’m sure there are plenty of others in the same boat.

Everything will work out for the best. I have a really strong feeling I’ll wind up at Skidmore next fall, and it’d be awesome if we were classmates!! :D:D

I still have 7 other schools to hear back from, so I understand your pain. In due time it’ll ALL be over…at least you can seek comfort in that, right?

Thanks for the good wishes! Good luck to you, as well  I, too, have 7 other schools to hear from…! If I get into Skid, BU, or Columbia, that’s where I’m headed. Which 7 do you have to hear from?

I still have Amherst, SUNY Binghamton, Brown, Colgate, UPenn, Vassar and Williams to hear back from. Vassar’s in my top three, along with Skidmore and Wesleyan, so it all comes down to financial aid, essentially.

Go to Skidddd! :D:D

Those are great schools! Here’s hoping I get into Skid. Are they for sure mailing decisions on Friday?

I believe so! You could probably call admissions tomorrow just to check!

Will do! Thank you  Good luck to your friend, too!

alisafran, they are indeed mailing decisions on the 26th. I talked to someone in Admissions the other day, and she said that they won’t be emailing in conjunction - it will just be by mail. I would be the friend that hasn’t heard back yet, haha! I think for the most part, people who’ve heard already are either scholarship winners, multicultural people, and probably some exceptional candidates, early-write style. The rest of us will be fine! Good luck!

Yep, just called them! Mail goes out the 26th. Crossing my fingers for us!

haha we all seem to be looking at similar schools; I’m waiting on Brown, Haverford, Vassar, Wesleyan, Oberlin, and Occidental…

best of luck!

All excellent schools! Let me know how you fare in those decisions!

Thanks, and good luck to you, too!
