Hello,
I recently gave SAT with very little preparation and my scores came very low. I although managed to score 800 in math but in critical reading and writing section, my scores were in low 400s. My vocabulary is bad, I spent a little time memorizing some SAT specific vocabularies but failed to use them in sentences.
Although my grammar is pretty good (don’t know if I made some bubbling errors in SAT) and I am confident that with good practice, I will master the writing (grammar) section but as far as critical reading is concerned, I am pretty much helpless. I was although able to score 9 on essay.
Now coming to the main topic. I have heard that ACT focuses less on vocabulary, is that true? Also, please tell me what is the overall level of english in ACT as compared to that of SAT? Should I consider giving ACT this time or stick to SAT?
I am very strong in mathematics (know much more than SAT and ACT syllabi) and science (Physics and Chemistry), but in english, I am not at all of SAT level. It would be great if ACT will offer me some benefit in reading section. Please do reply.
Thanks.
In English, we almost always say “take the SAT.” The proctor gives the SAT.
As far as I remember, yes.
In your case, it is a good idea to try out the ACT. There is less emphasis on vocabulary, and I found many of the reading/grammar questions more straightforward (e.g. I only scored 610 on SAT CR, but then got a 31 on ACT reading with no prep).
gonna give ACT a shot!
Can you please tell me how much points on SAT CR roughly equal to 31 on ACT reading?
Less vocabulary on the act. However there’s science which isn’t too bad.
There’s not as much vocabulary on the ACT. You definitely should give the ACT a try either way. I can’t really comment on the level because it was about the same.
I have a 36 in ACT reading/35 in ACT English and a 760 on CR. I find that my SAT scores are a little lower than the ACT scores. Online, it says that a 31 Reading is a 93-94%. According to an official PDF from Collegeboard on the percentiles, that’s equal to like a 680-690.
In my opinion, the ACT had an easier english section than the SAT. However, it has the addition of the science portion.
