Which IB course to take?

I'm new to this site, and I really need some feedback as to which course to take next year. I'm currently in grade 10, so this would be for grade 11. I'm Canadian, and I would like to make sure my courses are sufficient enough that I can leave the option of applying to a Canadian or American university.

Anyway, I have the choice for the Social Studies credit of the IB Diploma of taking IB History or IB Business. If I took History, I would end up with a HL credit, where as, if I took Business I would only have a SL credit because that's all that is offered at my school. However, I'm really interested in Business, and I know I want to go to university for something in that related field. Also, if I take Business, could possibly have another elective later pertaining to other fields of interest (law).

I just want to be sure that if I took Business over History, which would be one less course, that universities would not look at it as not taking the hardest courses possible. I'd actually take both if there I could because I like History too. Sorry this is so long, but I have to my planning sheet in soon and I can't decide what to do. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

US - take history

Canada - no idea

Yea, it
s a hard choice! Basically, you can not get any credit at all for SL courses in the U.S. Only for HL courses, if you score a 6 or 7.

So if you took IB business, that would mean you are not taking the hardest courses possible?
I agree with nomad, take history. You like it, and it
ll be a better
foundation
for college studies(IMO). You can study business when you get to college.
However, if taking IB business will still allow you to take the hardest courses possible, then you should take business. If not, history would be a better option

I agree. History is a better option because first of all, you'll get HL credit, secondly, I believe most colleges would agree that IB HL History is a VERY challenging course. History is also a required course in U.S. high schools, so it's better for you to take history anyway, IMHO.

Business is more pre-professional, so it really depends on what you want to learn in the next two years. If you are sure that taking a business course in high school will benefit you in the long run, then there's no reason for you not to take it.
