Which is Best for GE?

I'm an incoming freshman and I have been questioning my major choice based on the career in which I'm interested.

Currently, I am majoring in Biochem, and I really aspire to have a career in genetic engineering.

But, would Biochem give me a great background in such, especially for grad school?

Or, would Biology or BME be a better choice for a potential genetic engineering career?

P.S. I'm very much inspired by the study of molecular ongoings in organisms, thus the attraction toward Biochem. I'm just a little hesitant about the major at GT due to grad school and job placements. But, I know that BME would not have as large of an issue as Biochem would in these areas. But, it's better to go with your interest right?

Majord – I applaud your ambition. Frankly, the best place to get this sort of information would be from professors or faculty advisors. You’e probably going to study about the same stuff your first semester anyway, so it would be easy to switch majors if you think you’ve started out in the wrong one.

But It’s been my experience that GT is very helpful to answering questions from prospective students, so, heck, you might just get a GT directory, try calling (or emailing) the department heads and see what they think.

(Not to be sarcastic, but you’d probably get a more reliable answer from a GT professor than from an anonymous posting on College Confidential or anywhere else.)

Hey thanks a lot!
