Which is better, ACT or SAT?

Which is better, the ACT or the SAT?

ACT
Reading 35
Science 22
Math 28
English 34
11 essay

SAT
Critical Reading 730
Math 610
Writing 760
9 essay

Though when you convert and everything, you have a ACT that becomes a 2130, and a SAT score a 2100...I'd go with the SAT.

Why, if the ACT is 30 points higher when converted?

SAT is more credible, I'd hate to say. A 2100 means more.

Thanks for the info. How are the scores converted?

Well obviously unofficial...but what I do is:

(ACTSCORE/36)*2400=NEWSATSCORE

Argghh...I already sent my ACT scores. My SAT results are on the permanent test record attached to my transcript. Should I send my SAT results to colleges too?

That's a silly way to convert. The SAT looks better. The 22 really looks weak.

FYI: I said the SAT was better first because the SAT is more widely used....this is the best way of converting, it's proportional.

Send both.

Contrary to popular belief the SAT is not "better" but only weighted more towards vocabulary and writing. ACT is not "easier" but only more balanced in terms of math and science. SAT only has better advertising than the ACT, THATS IT.

I got a
E: 29
R: 33
M: 35
S: 34

While on the SAT I got a
W: 660
R: 640
M: 770

Obviously the math scores add up (and the E score to an extent). However the Reading score is vastly different and really shows that i am capable in that area.

In terms which test is more widely used, they are not that different. I think about 1.3 million students take the SAT every year and it is something like 1.1 million for the ACT. The ACT is the predominate test in half of the country. In the state where I live, only 7% of students take the SAT.

There is a chart somewhere that converts SAT to ACT scores and vice versa, but it has been questioned by a number of people. In answer to your question, I agree that the ACT score of 22 in science makes your SAT score look a bit better and if you are only going to send one, send the SAT. But over all, I don't believe it will hurt you to send both.

I have always heard that the college look at the score that help the most and disregard the one that doesn't. Why would it matter if both tests were sent if that is truly the case?

It doesnt matter, think of it this way honestly.

Its much harder to do well on a test every single time than it is to screw up. The adcoms know they are generally long tests and that any of a multitude of reasons can drop your score.
