Which is better?

What would be better, studying abroad during senior year or staying home and continuing with EC's? I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've searched many different forums and have found similar threads but nothing really helpful. My problem is that I'm going to be a junior this year and am starting a couple of EC's. I'm thinking of studying abroad senior year (maybe with SYA) but if I leave, I can't continue with EC's, etc. What would look better? I think studying abroad seems more unique, but I'm not sure.

Also, that of course wouldn't be the only factor in my decision, but I'd still like to know. Oh, and I know I could post this in the study abroad forum, but I think it will get more replies here. Thanks!

Here's a thought ... why not do what you WANT to do?????!!!!! Life is not about doing what you think others want you to do. If you follow your heart & do what makes you happy, the rest will follow.

Yeah, do what you like to do. Stop worrying about what will look good. Pretend that you don't even have to apply to get into college.

:O But if I just do what I want, I'll NEVER get into Harvard. And if I don't get into Harvard, my life is over!!!

(Just kidding. I don't even really want to go to Harvard.)

But I mean, yeah, of course I'll do what I want, I would never consider doing either of those options just for college. But I would at least like to know what people think. Maybe I should have worded it differently. Would it be harmful to study abroad and not go further in activities? Maybe that's more accurate.

What's even more accurate is: Which one would you rather do: study abroad or continue your activities? It does seem like you're doing it just for college because you asked " What would look better? Studying abroad seems more unique."

Colleges don't expect students to continue their ECs while they're out of the country! Study abroad is looked upon favorably since it can be an intimidating experience and shows a certain strength of character -- especially if we're talking about a non-English speaking country. That said, I agree with others: do what you WANT to do. Neither is detrimental or a significant hook to getting into good schools.
