Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business or University of South California Marshall School of Business or NYU Stern
think it’s more of a question of where you see yourself working someday. connections happen where you study - a generalization, of course, but commonly so.
To answer the question, it’s probably Stern. But if you got into all 3, you should look at personal fit.
@todd87 would it be a stupid decision to go to Tepper instead of Stern?
@todd87 would the job prospects be similar either way?
i have a side interest in entrepreneurship (an aspiring dream of mine is to start my own business). Do you think Carnegie would provide good resources for entrepreneurship :)?
Go to CMU…forget NYU
CMU is ranked #10 nationally by recruiters according to WSJ. NYU is not in the top 25 and probably not the top 50.
Recruiters do not really examine programs as much as they do the school.
CMU is such a terrific name, nationally.
Stern by a long shot
@todd87 Then why do CMU Tepper grads start with higher pay?
Too much romance about NYU and Wall Street. The golden era is long gone.
Stern UG is ranked #5 on US News. For finance, which is the most popular choice at most schools, Stern UG is ranked #2. Stern has not been on the decline at all. If anything it has been rapidly on the upswing. Job placement at Stern is unbelievably good and I’m speaking from experience.
CMU is better at STEM than NYU or USC.
NYU and USC are better at the social sciences and humanities than CMU.
But the three schools find common ground with their excellent business schools.
Any of them can get you to Wall Street or Chicago for the exciting finance jobs, but generally speaking:
If you want to work in PA, go to CMU.
If you want to work in NYC, go to NYU.
And if you want to work in Southern California, head to USC.
