Getting accepted to Haas or Engineering.

^^As a transfer? (You cannot apply to Haas as a frosh.)

As a freshman. Some highschooler asked me whether he should apply for EECS or LS then Haas. He’s ok with either and want to pursue the path with less resistance.

getting into LS is a lot easier to get into then to get into CoE. Getting into Haas is not easy.

Also (assuming this student is not genuinely interested in business or engineering) you should probably tell this person to get their head out of their wallet/purse and to study something they enjoy

Yeah, I mean, while I think that’s slightly harsh, and that some may just want a good career, I honestly think this person might be somewhat confused if they’re willing to go into two incredibly different areas of study. Unless they’re going to do CS in L&S along the way or something.

I think the bottom line is that it depends on how good your grades + scores are at this point. If you have great grades and show evidence of being good at math and science in high school, likely EECS is a better application, because to get into Haas, I think you have to apply after getting your [hopefully good! no guarantees…] grades in whatever courses AT Berkeley. I’m answering the question just as a general deal, but I do wonder, like the above poster, whether this question comes from someone who’s given thought to what they want to do…maybe so, but certainly a good chance not.

Getting into L&S as a high school senior< Getting into CoE as a high school senior < Getting into Haas as a Berkeley student.

Generally speaking.

This is because classes are much harder at Berkeley than _____ high school.

I have some questions regarding about these two popular programs at Cal:

Which between the two is more prestigious?

Which grads get paid more than the other, on average?

They are both extremely prestigious. Engineering is #2 or #3 nationally, while Haas is also top 10.

On average, Engineers are gonna make more upon graduation if only bcos some biz undergrad areas don’t pay as much (HR, Marketing) for starters.
