Is anyone taking 17’’ to campus? I’ve been trying to decide between 15’’ and 17’’ for the past 4 months… power or portability that is the question

around 15" seems normal, 17" is obviously bigger

given that the battery power would also be less…

dunno

I know ill regret either way lol.
if i get the 15’‘, Ill be like I could have gotten a better GPU and a better quad core
if i get the 17’', I would be like I wish this **** was more portable

They are about 1lb differnce
7lb for 15’’ and 8 for 17’'

Where are some places to get decent laptop locks for a low price?

dunno…

aren’t most laptop locks around 25-30 dollars?

given what they’re used for, I’d go for quality lol

Kensington makes the best laptop locks. You should look for them

[Amazon.com: Kensington 64343 MicroSaver DS Notebook Computer Lock with Keys (PC/Mac): Electronics](http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-64343-MicroSaver-Notebook-Computer/dp/B000FLNS76/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

[Amazon.com: Kensington 64068F MicroSaver Notebook Lock and Security Cable (PC/Mac): Electronics](http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-64068F-MicroSaver-Notebook-Security/dp/B00000K4KH/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

Locks are not 100% fool proof btw but they are better than nothing.

Dang

so…

laptop lock = 40 dollars
case = 25
cooler = 40
wireless mouse = 30

total = 145…

…

I found this website that has benchmarks for seemingly all commercial processors

they don’t specify what exactly the rank means in terms of absolute performance, but it does give a relative view

[PassMark Software - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs](PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs)

this is surprising, apparently GHz is not a good indication of performance in some situations.

for example
my AMD athlon 64 3500+, 2.2 GHz
beats an Intel 3 GHz

ha I got a free case from my old back
Is the laptop even that effective.
Ill just log out of Vista
I seen wireless mouse for 25 at walmart

so for me it
rubber keyboard 5 dollars
monitor ill buy from goodwill/local thrft shop- 5
wireless mouse 20 if I want or il keep it OG with the normal mouse at 3
flash drive 1gb 6 bucks

so for me 36 buck with wire less mouse or 19 with out
plus 30 for printer

66 or 49

dunno about case for backpack… I imagine I could just use one… so no cost there

turns out I already have an extra mouse, albeit not wireless

but still have to get the cooler and the lock, so that’ll be around 80 dollars

I found this really good deal on Amazon -

Gateway,
Intel Dual core T6500 2.1 GHz
4 GB RAM
320 GB hard drive
Intel GMA 4500 MHD
15.6 inch screen

for 579.99 dollars

[Amazon.com: Gateway NV5814u 15.6-Inch Laptop - Black: Computers & PC Hardware](http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-NV5814u-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B002EEP3S4/?tag=prodrevis-20)

for the price, I was salivating

only problem is that the graphics card is integrated for RAM, so it’s not as good for gaming

Whiteclock you should look at this deal. I think you’ll be really interested

[CompUSA.com | | HP Compaq 6910p Laptop & 17" Case & 1GB RAM Bundle](http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4960674&SRCCODE=LSCMPUSA&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&AffiliateID=UnlJPFdznf8-8BVMWHOQVgTb3pSLadW0kg)

900$ deal for only 500$. it comes with a notebook case and extra 1gb ram that you can install in your notebook! Also it has a dedicated GPU ATI Mobility Radeon X2300, I don’t know how good it is though.

Aren’t those Kensington locks available in the Apple stores?

It’s not as good…

the dual core processor is older than the one I mentioned, (it had a performance rating of around 1000 compared to 1500 on the benchmark website I mentioned)
has 2 GB RAM instead of 4

only 80 GB hard drive

the graphics card is really good though, it’s designed for gaming

you can always pick up an external harddrive and your CPU benchmarks are misleading
T7300>T6500. Also ramsticks are really cheap these days.

lol i’m not so sure now…

the extra RAM + Hard drive seems better worth it since the processors don’t differ as much as they do

edit:

I found another benchmark test, the T7300 is better than the T6500, but to a marginal degree
I guess the graphics card might make a big difference too, but I’m kinda looking at the RAM and hard drive and it’s discouraging…

yea the ram and HD is bit shabby.
I found a MSI laptop for $580
[Newegg.com - MSI EX630-034US NoteBook AMD Turion X2 RM-70(2.00GHz) 16" Wide XGA 3GB Memory 250GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS - Laptops / Notebooks](<a href=“Not Found: 404 Error”>Not Found: 404 Error)
AMD Turion X2 RM-70(2.00GHz)
3GB Ram
250GB
Geforce 9300M GS

lol the one your mentioned earlier is quite expensive… (and compuse says it’s no longer available ) but the hard drive and RAM still discourage…

I like the new one, :D

but it’s AMD turion so somewhat lower

but very very good graphics card

mebbe…
thanks for the link, you help me a lot :P

EDit:

nvm I’m going for the MSI, it sounds awesome now and much more comparable

battery life is low though…

heh its my pleasure
I actually enjoy doing this kind of stuff lol. This is why im doing engineering haha

Also the nVidia 9 Series offer Hybrid power, which means that you can technically turn off the dedicated card to have more battery life. And the 9300m GS will allow you to play modern games in low setting and past games such as Half life 2 or Farcry in medium setting
