In regards to class rank, does it look better to colleges if you are from a not so good public school of about 700 - 800 kids per class and at the very top of your class (top 1%), or if you come from an exclusive private school (or just a good public school) with say 100 - 200 kids per class but only being in say the top 25%.

Im just wondering because I come from a huge public school - the second largest if not the largest in my state - and even though each year we send a few kids to Ivies and other top schools, its overall a failing school. I just really hope this doesn't negatively affect my chances to get into a good school.

It will not affect your chances to get into a good school as long as your SAT/AP/ECs are solid. They might even cut you some slack for being comparatively disadvantaged. You want to really make sure that you don’t settle for being top of your class though, but rather compare yourself to competitive applicants to your target schools.

Thanks for the input. I was really worried it would put me at a disadvantage, lol. But thats a good idea to compare myself to the top kids from other schools.

no, it’s definitely not a negative for you at all. as with any kid with disadvantages in any other uncontrollable social/economic/geographic aspect.

Thanks thats good to hear. :)
