Which Major(s) for a Future MBA Student?

Hi, I have recently made up my mind that I am going to get my MBA a few years after I graduate from undergrad. I am in high school, and I am not sure where I am going to college yet. I am planning on double majoring with a possible minor as well, and I am wondering what majors I should consider to have a succesful career in the business world and eventually to get my MBA.

These are the Majors I am currently interested in:
Software engineering
Environmental engineering
Mechanical engineering
Computer engineering (Hardware and software)
Physics
Math
Statistics
Economics
Business (Should I major in business if I am going to get my MBA?)
Psychology

I want to major in two and minor in one. Also I might minor in Spanish or religion just for fun if none of these work out for a minor. Are there other majors I should consider? Which do you think would be the most helpful for a future MBA student? I know it's impossible to tell for sure what I will like and be good at because you don't know me and it's different for everyone, but advice would be very appreciated! Thanks so much!

You are doing things out of order. Let me explain.

An MBA is an advanced degree that not everyone needs. You go to an MBA program about 5 years after undergrad if it is part of your career path, but you’ll only really know if it makes sense for you to leave your job and pay tens of thousands of dollars to get an MBA rather than make tens of thousands of dollars as a college educated worker with five years of experience when that time comes.

MBA programs don’t care what your major was in undergrad, so you should really pick the major that reflects your interests, then set appropriate goals for your field once you know what that will be.

You should not decide that you will major in two and minor in one, but rather choose the things that you want to study and decide which one you would rather study and pursue a second major if it makes sense. Double majors aren’t a resume stuffer and they usually are not worth your time and money, so deciding that you will get a double major before figuring out what you want a single major in is absolutely ridiculous.

The strangest part is that, while you’ve planned out a lot of decisions that you shouldn’t make until later and probably won’t need to make, you admit that we don’t know what you like and apparently you don’t either. This shows me that we both know that nobody can choose your major for you and that you are pretty confused about all of this.

You’re absolutely right, I am very confused, that’s why I am looking for some guidence. I’m an anxious high school sophomore and I am nervous about my future. I just want to prepare myself to be a succesful worker, and I thought this thread would help me with some ideas and guidance.

Maybe the question I am trying to ask is, what do most successful MBA students Major in For Undergrad?

What ever interests you most is best. You will get better grades in the field you enjoy the most.

What you should first ask is what field do you want to work in for the next 10 years if not for the rest of your life.

Then ask yourself do you want to be a specialist in that field or a generalist. Generalists become managers and MBA’s. Specialists get further studies in their field.

You can choose your major in Jr. year so you have 2-3 years to try everything in the core curriculum to get an idea of what you want to study. You seem to list sciences so that must be what your interested in. You also appear to like highly quantitative disciplines. So maybe that is the direction you should start with and see what happens. You can always switch majors too.

Business students are usually very decisive. If you’re not that way you may not have a business type personality. That doesn’t mean you wont do well, it just means you’re different.

Thanks for the input!

Any engineering or compsci major is going to take so much of your time that it will be difficult to minor in anything else, let alone double major and pick up a minor !

My advice to you would be to do some more research and narrow it down to ONE major ( at least to start out with) that you feel you like the best. Oh and MBA programs think very highly of engineering majors , because the schools understand how rigorous the coursework is and that engineering majors can solve problems very well. But honestly , I would pick what you’re passionate about and not what “looks best for b - schools”.

It won’t be a bad idea to major in business in your undergrad and then get some professional experience under your belt. That way, you’ll have the perfect combination of academic qualification and industry experience when you go for an MBA. A bachelor’s degree in business will also lay the groundwork for your future study plans. You may want to consider CollegeAmerica’s [business administration degree](<a href=“http://www.collegeamerica.edu/business-administration-degree.html"]business”>http://www.collegeamerica.edu/business-administration-degree.html) as you can earn it on a fast track in 36 months. The faster you complete your undergrad, the quicker will be your passage to an MBA!

^^^ hahahahahahhahahahahaha!

don’t listen to bull***** that people like jascox pull out of their butt.
