Which major to apply to....

HI-
Could use some good advice! My daughter would like to apply to Northwestern for Fall 2011(which means in the next 2 weeks!!)

Her 2 main interests are Music and Communications/maybe journalism/ television.
Minimally she would want a minor in music/vocals.

As a candidate for the school, I think she has a shot, if she showcases her strengths. 2120 SAT, her strongest score in writing 800 (her interest) GPA 4.35 class rank 5. President of Chorale, Editor-in-chief of Newspaper this year, female leads in the school musicals each year, etc. Good community service with Autism charities for several years.

My question is this, given that she has these 2 interests (and strengths), what major should she apply to initially, to give her the best shot at getting into the school?

thanks

Apply to the School of Communications. Just know that the writing score is the least important to the NU admissions office and they will only look at her UW GPA.

Thanks so much, good advice. Took a good look at that major yesterday and it seems to be a better choice for her anyway (versus the journalism degree). But she is still set doing a dual with Music.

I would contact Bienen School of Music to see if they offer a dual-degree option with Journalism.

They do offer a dual music /journalism degree for highly qualified students. It is a 5 year program. She is not sure she wants to go that far from home for undergrad (we are in NJ).
She could sent a prescreening DVD for music and see if she gets offered an audition.
