It seems we should be applying to a prospective major on the application. My first love is international relations, but the international studies major is an adjunct major at NU. Can we still apply under that major or should we apply under another major? Which major would you suggest if we wanted it to correlate well with international studies. I was thinking about English Lit...

Also, how do the International Studies and English departments at NU compare with the departments at other competetive colleges? Could any students in those majors offer insight?

Because it's designed as an adjunct major, International Studies will fit with anything pretty well, so just go for what you're interested in (maybe a Poli Sci major?). As far as applying with a major, this only really applies to the school you're applying to. Therefore, unless you're going for journalism, music, engineering, communications (communications studies, theatre, film, dance, etc), or SESP (education and social change, I believe?), then it doesn't really matter what your intended major is. Within the Weingburg School of Arts and Sciences it's easy to switch majors without much fuss.
