Which Major?

I have thought long and long about this:

I could choose to major in either:

CS and Math (75 credits):

Lighter course load
More time to work on side projects/business/network
More Exchange opportunities
Low GPA = uh oh
More competition since jobs could be taken away by other majors
Course are more alined to career
Not interested in a pure cording job

EE with a CS Minor (108 + 24 credits):

Greater Breath of Material
Option to be an engineer
Higher barrier of certification
Takes more time to complete (maybe extra year)

I am interested in finance careers as well as consulting. Maybe quant finance? Also tech companies/startup/S&T/Analyst.

However, all of them are very competitive.

I have never coded before.

I need to decide on my major very soon because I am entering my sophomore year (advance credits).

I like math.

I don't go to an ivy but my school is comparable to UMich.

Nothing wrong with any of these majors.

If you haven’t taken a class in programming, you should before deciding on CS as a major. Also, if you’re not really interested in a “pure” coding job, CS is likely not the right major for you. Try to take a class in Finance and programming this next semester, it will go a long ways to helping you choose your major.

I’m also considering finance. If you wanna be a Certified Financial Analyst you just have to get some exp and pass 3 somewhat hard exams. Should be a cakewalk if you are an Eng grad. It gives you a really solid foundation from what i understand.
Agree with Gator, you need to do some coding to see if you like it.

“I have never coded before.” - Interesting. Tell us why you are considering a CS major or minor.

Reading between the lines and taking the “quant” reference into account, I’m guessing $$$.

If that’s what you really want, you can do straight math also. You’d better know more about the day in and day out life of that career though. Those folks work brutal hours on things that many feel are pretty esoteric before they roll down easy street.

For some reason there are a gazillion threads on I-banking on the forums atm. If you want cash read them over, they might enlighten you :D
