UCLA is one of my dream schools and I want to either apply to comp sci major or stats major. Which major is relatively easier to get into in UCLA?
Stats would be an easier admit than CS. Far more students apply to CS than Stats, so less competition and hopefully higher acceptance rate.
Statistics may be easier because admissions to the College of Letters and Science (which houses Statistics), is supposed to be independent of choice of major. In HSSEAS (Computer Science included), admissions considers choice of major. So in Statistics you’re competing against the general pool of applicants. For Computer Science, the typical admitted student has higher GPA and SAT than in Letters and Science.
