Hi, I am wondering which math class I can enroll in for this upcoming year. I took Calculus AB and BC in high school, but didn’t take the AP test for either one. Do I have to start out with Math 21A at UCD or can I choose 21B instead? Thanks.

Edit
Unrelated, but have a question about class times: I looked in the Class Schedule and Registration Guide and for each class it gives a time. I’m just confused about what this means (this is what it looks like in the time column for one class):

MWF
R

I can assume MWF means Monday, Wednesday, Friday, but what does the R mean under the M? There is also:

If you didn't take the tests you have to start with A.

R means that the discussion section for that class is held on Thursdays.
R= Thursday. Thus for the other example, the discussion would be held on Tuesday.

bend3r, was that supposed to be directed to me? I read from that website (link above) that a score of 700 or above on SAT I would be enough to waive the MPR (mathematics placement requirement). Am I understanding something wrong?

getting a sore of 700 on sat i or sat ii math will waive you from MPR.(if you didn't pass, then you have to take lower classes). waiving the MPR just means you can get into math 16A or math 21A. definately take the As before the Bs. 21A is calculus for engineering wheras 16A is short calculus. there are also the 17 series which you need to take if you're in biosci but don't worry about that. have you gone to your orientation yet? all the info will be there. oh and i highly suggest taking 16 A if you didn't even take the calc AP. i passed it and i will be taking 16B. 21 series are going to be lots harder.

hoper I can't attend my orientation because I'm going overseas on July 23. A friend of mine who has already gone to orientation said that if you get 50+ on the MPR you are placed in 21B, but I haven't seen this anywhere so I assume he is wrong. I'm probably going to end up taking 21A because my major is engineering. :) I was just wondering if there was any way I can go to 21B since I've already taken AP calc BC in high school. But it might be better if I start out from A and work my way up again.
