My daughter is in AP Cal BC this year and pulling close to 100s. She took AP Cal AB last year and scored a 5 on the AP exam. She is also taking AP Phy C this year and is handling it fine with a high A. As a triple major (Plan II, Biochemistry, Psychology) which math should she take if she scores a 4 or 5 on the BC exam?

If she’s the type of person that likes a good challenge, I would highly recommend taking M 427L-AP. The course is designed so that students do not have to spend time relearning the material in Calculus BC. The “standard” M 408D spends the first several weeks of class going over sequences, series, and parametric equations/polar coordinates.

(See AP Tracks)

I’m not sure if she will find the extra material useful since it’s geared more toward the hard sciences, but if she really likes math, I think this would be a good course to take. A fair bit of warning though - the class tends to be full of nerdy math/science/engineering males (they’re really nice though!). I took M 427L-AP last semester and really enjoyed it.

most kids I know take M408C and M408D even if they get 4s or 5s on the AP exam.

idk why, i guess for a GPA booster (pre meds gonna pre med)

Because of the triple major she does not want to do that. Besides, repeating of material would be boring for her. She is looking forward to being challanged, and I can’t imagine repeating material would provide that??
