If you had to choose any month to take the SAT in, which one would you choose? Please factor in midterms, finals, and 2-3 months of prep.

With all this in mind, I think October is really the optimal month. What do you guys think?

yeah i agree with October, because you could prep for it over the summer without having to worry about school work and stuff

My son's strategy, for his junior year and his first college entrance test, was to begin prep and private tutoring during the winter holidays, right after Christmas, and take the January (26) SAT, and continue the tutoring and then take the March (1) SAT. He was able to get in about 15 hours of private tutoring before the January test, then another 15 hours before the March test. He knew his January results for his last couple of tutoring sessions before the March test, so he could focus on some problem areas. He was on the semester system, so he was through with his two SATs before he was even halfway through the semester, so he had plenty of time to re-focus on classwork and final exams. It seemed to be a nice period to focus on the SAT and get in back-to-back tests, with little impact on school work. Worked nicely for him.

Late January to March tests are pretty good times, that is if you think you can prep in less than a month.

the best time to take the test is when you think you would be prepared well.
but i must acknowledge that i think sat in Jan is usually slightly simpler than that in june

October! I thought that was the busiest test-taking time at my school

i heard that the curve in Jan. is always the lowest...

Written by an admissions counselor in one of her books, but absolutely incorrect; all tests are scaled to be similar. (Otherwise, everyone would take it in Jan.)

haha thank god that's wrong. i took mine in nov

did it in May--late as possible b/c i was taking SATIIs in June. Didn't want to worry about it over the summer (bad idea!) so i just took it. and said, screw this if you wanna retake too bad cuz this is the last possible date. Y AYY
