Which nationality is beneficial when applying to Berkeley

Is there such a thing as a beneficial nationality ?

I am Russian/Jewish, but there are tons of people like that. I was thinking of lying about my nationality because realisticly i can get away with russian and anything eastern european, armenian/georgian, or even iranian/iraqi/arabian.

Are any of those combinations better than Russian/jewish.

No. That's known as affirmative action and that was deemed illegal in CA in 1998 I think but no your nationality will not help you at all regardless of what people on this forum have said or think.

agree w bruin.

Like the others said, AA has been banned by the UCs for a while now, although there are some conspiracy reports that UCs try to circumvent the law by finding ways to "infer" someone's race from the application.

Regardless, you really ought to be ashamed of yourself. Lying about your race is really a bad choice on your part, because if you do get into Cal, you'll never know whether you truly deserved it, or if you only got in because you lied.

If I were you, I would just decline to state your race.

but even if it's banned...there's no single equation that an admissions office plugs numbers into. they do care about your nationality. say: part russian, part armenian, part iranian

nope...they definately don't care.....even if they did have sort of an affirmative action program, saying you're Asian wouldn't help you at all....if you're white it's the same....Lying about your race is ***** made....if you're not good enough to get in then just accept it....if you are, then don't worry about it

ok, the whole thing about "why would u want to lie , then you never knwo why you got in" or "if you're not good enough to get in then just accept it"

thats a buttload of bs and you two should know it.
Do you really think that everyone who gets into Harvard is there because they deserve it and no one is there because their parents have fat wallets?

Reality is , that if my race is benefial i do want to play it and get all i can from it.
And sorry if someone finds that offensive or what not, but i dont care for what reasons i get accepted, as long as i know i used every avenue possible.

i agree with deansaholic.

i see that you really want to get in and possibly daunted by the numbers that are rejected but lying is not the way to go. plus, there are repercussions when they find out. when they find out, they send your name to every UC in the system and you get blacklisted. would you really want to risk that over lying about something that doesnt even really play that big of a role in decisions?

seriously, i dont think it does. i am asian, and i heard from countless people that asians get rejected because there are too many there. the thought of checking off another nationality crossed my mind for a second...but then i was like...screw it...i have a lot to offer...and if they can't see past the box i checked off by "asian/pacific islander" then really i dont wouldnt really want to attend there in the first place. their loss.

and guess what the outcome was when i got my letter in april? well, my name speaks for itself
