Hey guys, so I want to do something business related during and after college. I got into UC Irvine, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, and CSULB for business. At this point I am having a hard time deciding which school to attend. Which of these colleges would be best for my major? Feel free to include any additional information. Thank you.
(I did get into UCI’s Paul Merage School of Business for anyone wondering)
All have academically excellent programs. Did you visit all the schools? Any preference? Cost constraints?
I visited all of the schools except for SDSU and CSULB and loved them. My parents are willing to help me pay for college so affordability isn’t a problem which is why this decision is so hard.
If you are into rankings, then UCI would be the highest ranked followed closely by SLO and SDSU. Do you have any particular emphasis (Accounting, Finance) that you are interested in pursuing?
The areas I’m interested the most are marketing and finance.
UCI is ranked the highest on your list of choices, but not so high that it would outweigh fit in my opinion. It’s an excellent but small program. I would probably drop CSULB and choose from UCI, SLO, and SDSU based on where you see yourself for 4 years. Any of these 3 can result in excellent outcomes. BTW - congrats as these are all good options.
Do they all have the specific concentration you’re interested in?
Yes, which is why it is so hard to choose between all of them):
OP are you going to be able to visit SDSU and CSULB?
I bought a greyhound ticket to visit SDSU last week but ended up not going because I was sure I didn’t want to go to SDSU. Now I’m not so sure anymore. The deadline to commit is May 1st so I’m not sure if I will be able to squeeze in a trip!!
@Geehurtado where do you live? FYI - can take the train to SDSU but not sure how far away for you. Know you are interested in marketing, finance, or accounting and all of those are fine at SLO/UCI/SDSU. Once again I would go for fit at this point and the good news is these campuses are all very different. SLO is more isolated but is really a classic small college town, SDSU urban pretty campus with best sports of the bunch and with all the socal beach close bells and whistles, and UCI which is a solid UC in the heart of Irvine - maybe lower on the college fun factor but highest ranked. Choose where you will be happiest and make the most of it.
I am from Alameda. A small island located in Northern California. I am not sure how to make this decision. I can’t seem to find which school has more recruiting opportunities from accounting firms.
Thank you so much for your help! Do you know where I can find how many students end up getting recruited from these universities?
