If you want to be really awesome, it would be great if you could just say safe, most likely, match, reach, or absolutely not.

I am a high school senior who is ranked 4 out of 117 kids. My grades are all high A’s, so I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I have taken several AP classes and received a score of 5 on five of them and a 4 on one of them. I have outstanding extracurriculars: I volunteer A LOT, am NHS president, started my own tutoring program, started a club at my school, am part of the Spanish Honor Society, won a poetry award, am a district representative in my city’s youth council, and this summer I interned with a district judge and traveled to Japan with my school. Those are the good things. Oh, also I’m Asian.

Cons: I don’t play sports or play an instrument. My ACT score was a 31 with a 23 on the writing. My SAT was worse (1390). I’m not a National Merit Scholar.

So yep please let me know what you think my chances are!

Probably no to Rice, Emory or UT Plan II
You should get into perhaps 4 of the other 7

You are one of those students who could go either way at most of those schools. I think the low writing score on the ACT doesn’t help so if there is anything you can do to improve that you should try. Then show the love at these schools when you apply. Oxford division of Emory seems like the better goal and from what I’ve read, applying ED helps (probably at most of these) so aim to apply to one of those ED.
I don’t know UT or Rice so can’t comment (are you from Texas?) but otherwise would say non of those are either safeties or absolutely nots, more somewhere in the middle. Sorry can’t be of more help but no one really can

Rice and Emory might be reaches, but all of the other schools I think you have a great shot at.

Davidson College - Match, 50/50 (these would be the odds that I am giving you)
Emory University - Reach, not likely
Grinnell College - Match, 67/33
Lafayette College - Match, 67/33
Reed College - High match, decent shot
Rhodes College - Match, likely, 75/25
Rice University - Reach, not likely
The University of Texas at Austin’s Plan II Program - Sorry, I have no idea about the merits of this program. I couldn’t speak to your chances.
University of Richmond - Match, 50/50
Wesleyan University - Reach, not likely

Thanks, yes I am from Texas. San Antonio, Texas

just out of curiosity, if I raised my ACT a point or two higher, do you think it would heavily affect my chances?
