Which of these schools have the beeter reputation for Art?

Hi , I was hoping that you could give me your impressions, or a link that ranks the Art programs @ the following schools:

University of Hartford, SUNY @ New Paltz, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Syracuse University. D has visited each and likes different things about each. She has been accepted @ 2 and is waiting for decisions from the other 2. She plans to concentrate in Ceramics.

If you were accepted @ all which would you choose and why?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond!

I hear good things about SUNY New Paltz and art, in general. But that’s in general. Those are all good schools . . . she’d need to weigh the different reasons each school appeals to her.

as she surely knows, not all schools have strong ceramics departments–I assume she vetted that dept in all those places.

congratulations to your daughter, with so many acceptances to choose among.

I have to agree, all of those schools have fine art programs. Your dd needs to have a feel for the campus, the department, the studios, the kids, the professors and even the weather! Good luck to her on her decision.

thanks for the feedback. We plan to attend accepted student days and try and set up visits in the ceramic departments that she hasn’t already visited. I don’t know much about art or art school so I’m trying to educate myself. I’m not sure how to research the programs and thier reputations much past what is on the web pages and gooeling the professors. D has 3 that she seems to like but she never gets outwardly excited about much:) This is also the girl that had to try on 100 prom dresses before deciding on the 3rd one she put on!!

A friend of mine who teaches at Trinity, in Hartford, doesn’t like the city in general. she says it’s rundown and dangerous. But very possibly the University’s in a nice area.

Regarding art, I’d suggest trying to see as much student work, and as many studios, as possible.

Alfred has a great reputation in ceramics–did you look into that too? maybe she has enough choices to deal with as it is.

She just applied there because her current Ceramics teacher went there and keeps talking it up to her. It is very well respected for ceramics. We will visit in the spring, but she is not too enthusiastic because it is in such a rural area.
