Which one is better for Biomedical Engineering (BME) : UT Austin, U of Rochester, or UMiami?

Hi everyone, I’m an international transfer student and I got admission to these three schools (UT Austin, University of Rochester and University of Miami) for BME program. I have heard that UT Austin and Rochester have awesome academic reputations and I really don’t know how to choose between them. Also, since I’m from South America, I’m pretty familiar with the warm weather of UMiami and I love that place. But I have heard that UMiami doesn’t has its program as good as other schools, I would like to know if this is true or just my misunderstanding?

I’m looking for a school which has a good academic reputation, good student life, high qualified professors, and a good place to grow as a person holistically. The tuitions are not a problem for me since I received some scholarships from those schools, and I will be paying almost the same amount of tuition for the all three. Which college do you gays think I should choose? Thank you in advance for your helps!

The weather is Rochester, NY, can be extremely cold during the winter. If you are not used to cold weather, the winter temperatures may come as a shock. There are underground tunnels connecting several of the classroom buildings, though, so once you get to central campus you can avoid going outside until it’s time to eat or head to dorms or library. The sky tends to be heavily overcast all winter until around May (mid-spring). If you are prone to SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) Rochester may not be a place you want to live.

UR has a moderately active Greek (fraternity/sorority) presence on campus, but not an overwhelming one. Intercollegiate sports are not a big thing at UR–where the hot sports ticket is men’s club squash, not the football or basketball teams. Lots of student generated activities since the campus is pretty much isolated from the city with the Genesee River on one side and a massive cemetery on the other.

Thank you so much for the provided information. I would considered that point you mentioned for my decision. I have never been at a such cold place, but I think I may try to overcome the weather difficulties if Roc is really a more prestigious and value school to attend over those two else. Do you know if the academic prestigious of Roc is much better than the two other schools?

UT has the stronger engineering program.

Rochester’s strengths are its economics, biology/medicine and physics/optics programs. UR’s engineering is good, but not as good Texas’s engineering programs.

Ohh, thank you for the details!

Austin has quite a few residents from South America although I’m not sure how many attend the U of Texas. In any case, you’ll be able to find some familiar food if you are missing your favorites. Austin is an easy place to live. When figuring out a place to live, make sure to have a transportation plan to campus and convenient grocery stores if you won’t have a car.

Thank you for the information!

Is there anyone believe that University of Rochester could be the best fit since it has small size classes and a lot of supports for international student?

UR is about 30% international students, if that is important to you.

Absolutely!
