I'm an incoming freshman from Indonesia and I'm taking communication as my major. I actually have no idea about the dorm. So which neighborhood/ halls is the best for freshman? I really want to live in a dorm with friendly people and a lot of social scene. So... help!

hard to say which dorm is the best dorm. I’m partial to south complex (wonders, case, wilson, holden) because that’s where I lived for 2 years but really any neighborhood can be fun. You don’t really get to choose your housing unless you are in a residential college so it really doesn’t matter anyways. South complex is closest to athletic facilities (and thus has lots of athletes), but also a good portion of underclassmen/people who are very social. West circle (Landon, mayo, yakeley, gilchrist, campbell) is generally quieter/less social/has more upperclassmen than other neighborhoods. Snyder Phillips/Mason Abbot is where the artsy kids hang out…not exactly quiet, but not a riot either. McDonel is where most international students and transfer students get placed. Shaw has a lot of business majors, international students - predominately upperclassmen. Hubbard, akers have a ton of freshmen so it is bound to be social. Any of brody complex is very social as well (where most freshmen are housed). I would say MSU in general has friendly people, so you can’t really go wrong. Even if you get placed in a quieter neighborhood, you can still make lots of friends and you will still be able to meet your fair share of rowdy, social people if you are willing to seek them out.

As a freshman you will not be able to pick which dorm you will be living in, but don’t worry there are lots of people everywhere and the system they use for pairing you with a roommate seems alright; I don’t know anyone that has any complaints about a bad roommate.

But in general, lots of freshmen end up in south neighborhood, brody, and east neighborhood.
