Dorm Choices.

Simple broad question -- which dorm do YOU think is the best? I was thinking of maybe trying to get Shaw (can I on my first year?) because it's close to classes but I'm sure there are other variables in play (such as proximity to downtown) where some of the northernmost dorms would be superior.

It depends, if your in a residential college you will be place within Case or Holden. Other popular spots are Brody, Holmes, Wilson and Wonders.

There is also the residential college in Sny-Phi. Everyone forgets us :(.

Anyway, Shaw, if you can get it, is amazing.

Brody’s where most freshmen end up but next year they’re getting an AMAZING caf (yeah, I’m jealous because there’s going to be a vegetarian only place. Grumble, grr).

Avoid Holden if you want to be near downtown.

Looking at my map Brody does look pretty cool, I’d still prefer Shaw though because although I’ve lived in Michigan all my life, I hate the cold =[

next year you will most likely be put in either hubbard because that’s where the new first year experience program will be or in brody because its predominately freshmen (unless you’re in a residential college and then you would be in either case, holmes, or synder phillips).

I thought someone said in a earlier thread that you can’t choose your dorm anymore.

^??? I haven’t heard that.

I can’t find the thread now so maybe I am wrong.

^ I know I mentioned a while back that freshmen couldn’t select Snyder-Phillips anymore. Perhaps that is what you are thinking of?

Mason Hall! But, you most likely will not get in because non RCAH students who live in Snyder/Phillips are being pushed out and Abbot is designated as ‘singles only’ dorm for next semester, which means everyone will want to live in Mason. However, if you are in the Honors College, you might be able to! I do and I love it=]!

For Fall 2010, incoming Freshman cannot choose which dorm or style(community/suite) they want to reside in(unless you’re in a residential college).
On our housing application, we were asked 4 lifestyle questions which will be used to determine which dorm we will be placed. The questions were:

  1. do you smoke?
  2. would you room with a smoker?
  3. do you want a quiet floor?
  4. do you want an alcohol free floor?
Based on those answers is how we will be placed.

But-if you know of somebody you want to room with, you can still choose a roommate that way. There is a spot on the form to put down up to 3 roommates to live with.

Hope that helps.
