Which out of these states for college?

I want to go to college in either Hawaii, California, or Florida. Assuming I could get into state colleges at any of those three states, which is the best. I am from California and have family there, so that is a plus, but I am leaning to Florida just because it is on the East Coast. Thanks.

I'll be enrolling this fall, so I need to figure this out pretty soon.

If you’re a California resident, then California public universities have a built-in cost advantage. To that, add the fact that your state probably has the best public university system in the country. So why is this an issue at all?

I’m not a resident of California.

O.K. … then it could depend on a lot of factors. Which specific schools are you considering, to study which subjects?

I was considering UC Berk, UCLA (area I’m from) in California, UF or UCF in Florida and I have not looked into Hawaii. I just kind of threw that state in there, but I most likely wont go there.

There will likely be a huge price differential between going to a state school in CA and an OOS state school in Florida. And CA has one of, if not the best public university systems in the country. Unless the FL schools have a unique program that you want, I think that teh price difference will be very hard to justify.

What state are you a resident of, what are your intended or possible majors, and do you have any cost constraints?

If cost matters, what is your net cost after offered financial aid and scholarships at each school (or estimate based on the net price calculator if you have not seen the decision yet)?

I’m in Oklahoma right now. Cost is not really a problem, although I’d prefer to not spend like 60k a year or something like that. I intend to major something in business.

You would be OOS for all the states you listed. Have you looked at the Net Price Calculator for the schools? They were published online this year to give students an idea of the cost. UCB and UCLA are probably near the $55K/year range. What can your family afford? Your in-state schools, OU and OSU, are both good schools. Tulsa has a good business program.

Tyler1789,

Have you specifically discussed your college budget with your parents and/or whoever else it is who will be helping you pay for your education? Between all of you, can you come up with 60k each year for four years? If not, what is the range that you are looking at?

What are your grades and standardized test scores like? With that information and your working budget people here may be able to help you out a bit more.

Since you’re OOS for all of those publics, you need to get specific info from your parents as to how much they’ll pay each year.

To say that cost isn’t really a problem would be true if your parents are paying for all the costs. However, if you’re considering loans, then cost is an issue.

The UC’s are running about $50k per year…and some of those others you’ve mentioned are in the $40k range.

What are your stats? GPA? test scores?

Oh I see that you’re a senior? I hope you have a financial safety in case your parents won’t pay for an OOS public…many parents won’t pay full freight for an OOS public.

What are all the schools that you’ve applied to?

What do you want to study?
What kind of student body?
How much can you pay?

What does this mean? You’ve already applied, right?
