I am a senior in highschool looking to attend a pre-veterinary program next year. I'm from New York and would like to stay on the East coast. I was originally thinking of schools such as Auburn University, Cornell University, North Carolina State University, Florida State University, and the University of Florida, however, the more research I do, the more I see posts on how schools such as UMass Amherst and Becker College have great Pre-Vet programs. What schools would give me the best chances to get into Vet school in the future? Are there others that have great programs that I should look into?

What is your home state? Vet schools prefer instate students.

How much will your parents pay for undergrad?

Is Cornell the only vet school in NY.

I have to be honest with you. Your stats do not bode well as a prevet student. Unless your parents can easily pay for you to go OOS, then doing so is a big risk…paying a lot of money for a career goal that will be very difficult for you to achieve.

And, as I mentioned, state vet schools have to favor their instate students.

Vet school is hideously expensive, and many areas have more vets than they need right now so the career doesn’t pay as well as it did in the past. You need to keep your college costs low.

Check the pre-vet program at Cornell. Many of the students in that program used to come from the NY community colleges. That could be a good option for you too.
