I'm planning to major in art, and I'm the first one in my familiy to go to college. However, my family againsts me to take this major, they want me to major in engineering or something else beside art. I listened to them at first and got accepted in as a freshman this fall in UCI, CSULA, UCSB, CSULB, CSUF, UCR, CAL Poly. Now they want me to go to UC instead of Cal state. I still want to be major in art (without my parents knowing.) I heard that CSULB (calstate long beach) has great programs for art. However because my family wants me to go to UC i have to decide between the UCs. I'm planning to choose UCSB because they offered art BA yet i heard that it is a party school. I want to make a right decision to prove to my family. Please help me. thankyou.</p>
<p>My painting teacher at csssa is a professor in painting teacher at CSULB. His name is Devon Tsuno and you can message him on myspace/look at his website online if you google him about that. I saw some of the assignments that his students did and they were pretty good, so talent-wise it looks good.</p>
<p>He told me that UCI's art program is technology based and is a good school for getting into grad school. However I was talking to some people who go to the program and they said it was "meh". Their upper division classes look good though and I'm considering UCI if somehow I can skip their basic level classes. Check ratemyprofessors.com for any UC/CSU professors/programs you want to learn about- a tip from me.</p>
<p>I think out of all those schools, I would for myself have picked UCSB because it's a gorgeous campus with a lot of fun people. It has a life of its own and I'm sure you'll find inspiration in the surrounding area/ drives to SF or LA. For undergrad FINE art studies, it honestly doesn't matter where you go, its your ART that matters. Go somewhere where you'd feel like it'd be a good choice for you for the next 4 years in terms of happiness and how comfy you'd be there. </p>

<p>i think SB would probably be better than Irvine, in atmosphere (academic or otherwise) if not in the art department. you could also consider transferring to another UC with a better art program, like UCLA (i think UCSC has a good one too). however, transfering UC to UC is difficult since the transfer system is designed for community college students - i'm not sure about art majors where your portfolio can possibly override GPA, but for "normal" majors you'd need a very high GPA. i'm not sure about CSU to UC, but it'd still be more difficult.</p>
