I posted this earlier, but I guess it got deleted. I got accepted to Rutgers, Livingston, Douglass, and Cook. Which one is the best and why? Could you rank them in order of best to worst? A lot of people say Rutgers College is the best, could you explain why? Any info. about location, dorms, food, environment, people, etc. would be great. Thanks!

first, cook is more of a science and agriculture college, so i can't really compare it to the others. douglass is the all girls, as i'm sure you know, but you would have classes with guys. from what i have heard, livingston is sketchy as hell. i know that rutgers college is most selective. my sister attends cook and i stayed with her for a weekend 2 years ago. the food was fine, i couldn't complain. a lot of variety of people. it was nice.

Thanks! Would you consider the Rutgers area dangerous? Heh, I hear it's not that safe and the neighborhood isn't that great. What do you think?

well 3 years ago i went to a rutgers orientation thing with my entire family for my sister. we went on a bus tour and all that. they mentioned that there was a high rape rate and of course you hear about the STDs. i think that if you associate yourself with people like that, then yeah things will get dangerous. just don't go anywhere alone, especially at night. when i went down for a weekend i always felt safe. my sister has never had a problem with danger.

How would you describe the college surroundings? More classic with stone buildings, trees, grass or more modren with glass windows, tall buildings, etc.?

i know that cook is pretty ugly. it's just buildings with some farm land. the buildings aren't updated either. :(

I have lived in New Brunswick, NJ for all of my life and from all the people I know who go to Rutgers, and from personal experiences, I have come to know that Rutgers College is definetely the best. It is the most prestigious and most well respected. The engineering school is also very good, but seeing as you did not mention that, I will not speak of it. I know for a fact that the Busch Campus, home to the majority of Rutgers College students, is very safe. It is actually located in Piscataway which is an amazing place. It is very safe. It looks very nice and the people there are very sophisticated. So I will rank all of these schools in the order of best to worst.

1.) Rutgers College - the best
2.) Livingston College - eh...only go if you cant get into rutgers college
3.) Douglas College - for women
4.) Cook College - for the rejects

Okay thanks! From the pictures I see in the brochures, Rutgers looks really classic and nice. But pictures might be misleading.. So I guess if I don't get off the waitlist for pharmacy and I end up going to Rutgers, Rutgers College is the best choice. So Busch campus over College Ave. campus? Also, is it possible to enter Rutgers College and transfer to the Ernest Mario Pharmacy school?

Busch Campus if you want to be in a quiet, "rural"-type area. College Ave. if you want to be right in the middle of New Brunswick and be in the loud, possible unsafe city. From personal experience, I am choosing the Busch Campus for myself, and I recommend you do the same. Not that there is anything wrong with the College Ave. Campus, I just like Busch better. As for your second question, I don't know.

The old campus has a handful of nice buildings and lots of generic crappy ones in a decent tree-lined setting. Douglass is similar. The rest stink.
NB as a city is a little sketchy but not "dangerous" if you stay near RU.

Hmm good to know. I'll go with Busch campus then.

very good...hope to see you there :)

Sorry, but a lot of this advice is misleading. I currently live on College Ave. and unless you are a science or math major, I advise you try to live on College ave. There is ALWAYS something going on on college ave. because everyone lives close together and youre in much more of an urban area. Busch is very quiet and there's nothing there but academic buildings and dorms. (well yea theres the gym etc. too).

New Brunswick is NOT that dangerous, unless you're not being smart about your surroundings. Go out with a group, etc. Downtown NB is very nice and has lots of restaurants, etc.

If you're looking for a more classicly college-ish atmosphere, college ave. is what you're looking for. The older buildings are there, as are nice quads for dorms. Busch is all new, in my opinion, mostly ugly buildings (its the sci/math campus, after all).

Hopefully i cleared up a few misconceptions for you.

Hmm.. now I'm confused. Are both campuses enclosed or is the College Ave. one more spread out? I'm looking for the traditional college campus. How far apart are the two campuses, is it easy to just go back and forth?

They are both "enclosed" i suppose, as in they're not integrated with the city or anything... but theres no gate surrounding them or anything. Busch is MUCH more spread out and College Ave. is compact. Busch is in suburban Piscataway across the river and College Ave. is in New Brunswick. Traditional college campus = College Ave. Busch = not. The two campuses are a 7 minute bus ride apart (though you can stand and wait for up to 10 minutes sometimes if you're unlucky for a bus.)

I live in NYC, so I kinda want a more suburban environment. But then, I want the traditional college campus. Hmmph.

Well, New Brunswick isn't like NYC haha... I don't know, I just feel like you would personally be more happy at College Ave. because it's a much more classic college campus and Busch is definately not... if you can, visit! It's just a train ride away lol...

Yeah, but College Ave. looks so.. small in that picture on the link. Yeah, I guess I'll visit in the spring when I narrow down what colleges I might go to.

Campuses that I prefer:
1. Busch Campus
2. College Avenue Campus
Last. Livingston Campus

Schools that I prefer:
1. Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
2. School of Engineering
3. Rutgers College

Busch is the more "get your stuff done" campus. It's more about business in the sense that it is the sciences campus. The facilities there are often better than those on any other campus. College Ave is a good place if your into parties and such. Livingston is TERRIBLE. Horrible food, horrible dorms, horrible facilities, etc.

Difficulty to getting into each program:
1. Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
2. School of Engineering
2. Rutgers College
3. Douglass
4. Cook
5. Livingston
