Hi I’m a junior in high school struggling to decide which SAT II to take. I’m a very very qualified student, since middle school I’ve only gotten one B, this year I have all A’s with an A- in math only. I’m in advanced sciences and humanities, but have never been great at math. I’m wondering which SAT II to take in conjunction with US History that I’ve already studying. I suspect with enough studying I could get the same score on both math and lit. I took a math I practice and got a 600 without any studying and am hoping that could get to a 700. I took a lit practice and I didn’t know some of the terminology and didn’t score it (because I only took part of it) but I feel if I trained for that test I could probably achieve a similar score. I’m applying to very prestigious schools (I.e. yale is my top choice) and have heard word that Math I is looked at as a joke.
Some schools require three tests, take the ones you are most proficient in and/or highlights your interest for major. Do not take a “first language”; i.e., if your first language is Spanish, do not take that as a SAT II test.
I only plan on taking two because I looked at the colleges that require three and none of them are on my list. Unfortunately the only science SAT II I would be ready for is physics because I did an extension 2 year course in physics, but my college counselor told me not to take the physics sat II because it would require too much study time considering my class focuses on quantum dynamics, stuff that is typically not on the SAT II. I would also take chinese if it werent for the curve being insane because of actual chinese people taking the test (chinese is not my first language I learned it in school.)
It depends on your intended major. You want to show proficiency in subjects that are relevant to your studies. If you aren’t great at math, don’t take math.
Do you have SAT scores yet? Do they put you within range for the schools you are thinking of? (2100+) If not, that should be your first priority.
Waiting for scores to come back but guessing mid 2000’s probably will retake in may for 2100+
Why shouldn’t someone take a SAT II on their first language?
@JungleJim4232 Because the college admissions people expect you to do well, and it doesn’t really count because of that. If you had Spanish as your first language, and took the SAT Spanish, it would be a joke to you, and an easy 800. College admissions people know this, and they don’t give it that much weight as a result.
