Okay, so my two friends both recieved the same SAT score, but different sub scores, and they asked me which score I think is better (I have no clue why :/)

here are their scores:

friend 1: M 600 Cr 600 Wr 700 1900
friend 2: M 610 Cr 620 Wr 670 1900

friend number one argues that his score is better becuase colleges don't care about the Wr section, and that his Cr + M score is higher than friend 2's.

friend number two aruges that his score is better because he made it to 700 on one of his sections, but friend number 2 was only in the 600's for all his sections.

honestly, i wanted to tell them both that both their scores are sub par for the schools they want to go to (but that would be rude :) )...

so, which score would you rather have? (assuming that you don't want to go to an ivyleague/top tier school...hehe).

i think the differences are negligible, because that 600 could've been a 620 with a different scale. but i personally would prefer the second, because CR+M is still valued "higher" than W

they're looking at ivies and other top tiers (HUGE reaches i know.....but they got these scores in 10th grade..so i'm sure they'll improve......and they're URMS...

lol i'm sure they will both score well in 12th grade. see collegebound40's thread on correlation between 10th and 12th grade SAT scores. they will both gain ~190 pts per year, though it varies from person to person, of course.

In general, the second one is better because the writing is by far the most useless of the sections (not saying writing is useless, just saying colleges don't have a lot of respect for that new section yet).

Personally, I would still take the second, since I am applying to engineering schools and I would need my math to look as good as possible. XD
