Which SAT test counts toward 'matching' the pSAT for NMF?

I saw this on a great info post...

3) Does my SAT score need to "match" my PSAT score.
NO. It only has to exceed the minimum req'd SAT score....which is usually around 1960. However, to be safe, try to have at least a 2000.
4) Which SAT score is used?
One that is taken between Soph year and Dec of senior year. Score must be sent to NMCorp....code 0085.
5) Can my SAT be superscored?
No.

If a student makes a qualifying score on psat, will they have a choice of WHICH SAT test, taken between soph and senior year is used? If a student takes the SAT early in the Junior year, but is not happy with the results and takes it again later in the year, can that 2nd test be used to match the psat score so they might qualify for nmf?

Yes. Typically, though, they are all i’m the same general range. I think that the minimum for semi-finalist is about 208 (depends on your state and the year), which correlates roughly to a 2080. If you can make that on the PSAT, your SAT scores should be in that ballpark.

The answer to your question is yes, you get to choose which SAT scores are used, because they must be sent to NM Corp, Code 085, to be considered.

shoboemom…NMSC will only see whichever SAT score you choose to send them, and any score above the minimum “confirming” score will work. It makes no difference for progression to Finalist whether you are 10 points above the confirming score or a 2400. It’s POSSIBLE that the SAT score MIGHT make a difference in determining who gets offered the one-time $2500 scholarship, but no one knows for sure what kind of decision matrix NMSC uses for distributing those.

The “confirming” score for this year’s NMSFs is once again 1960 (someone called NMSC to check and posted in another thread) and is calculated by adding the M+CR+(10 x the multiple choice sub-score from Writing section). You need to drill down into the “Understanding My Score” area of the SAT score report to find the multiple choice sub-score. Make sure to find the sub-score…not the number of correct answers.

The reason you’ll often see 2000 thrown around for a confirming score is because an overall score of 2000 will almost always meet the 1960 requirement using NMSC’s formula.

Great! Next question… Can you send the sat scores to nm (code085), or to colleges, after you get your scores, or do you have to request to have them sent before you know how you did?

You can do it either way, but you will have to pay to send them later just like any other score sent after the test. If you are pretty confident your kid will score above 2000, just send them in as one of the freebies.
