Which School Seems To Be My Best Fit...?

Out of the schools: UCLA,UCSD, UCI, UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, UCSC, and SDSU

I want to live in the San Diego area after graduation and I want to major in business (marketing or accounting), or maybe psychology.
I want to go to a school with a good sports program and a school with school spirit.
I also want perfect weather (70 degrees year round), and for it to be close to the beach.
I want to go to a school with a good social life (party rep is fine with me).
I want to go to a laid back school where not everyone is competing for the highest grade in the class.

Opinions appreciated!!!!.......I'm posting here too bc this board is very busy and UCSD is on my list.

Based on that criteria, UCLA seems like the best.

UCLA is highly competitive and good beaches are hard to come by near the school. And the weather, while pretty nice, is definitely not 70s year round.

Based on what you want, I'd say either UCSB, SDSU, and if you can handle looking for parties, UCSD. Although, I'm not sure about the business programs here?

there isn't a business major at ucsd. the closest u can get to a biz major is management sciences or economics

I'd Say that UCSB is for you. Its close to the beach, and it seems to have a relaxed environment; it is very social- #2 party school in the nation according to Playboy. The weather is similar to San Diego, so its around 70's all year i think; i'd imagine nothing lower than in the 50's. And as far as sports, SB doesnt have football but they do have a good baseball team; more school spirit than SD.

I'd choose harvard, close to the beaches, relaxed, non-competitive students, party school

joking

I don't get why we (SDSU) have a reputation for bad school spirit, our basketball games were insane!

I had to choose between UCSC, UCI, UCB (got in for the winter term) and UCSD (winter term). I was rejected at UCLA and UCSB. My reasoning here was, I wanted to major in Finance, to get into HAAS at UCB I needed a 3.5 GPA and would hate my life. I looked up the average starting salary statistics between the SDSU and UCB and it differed by like 5,000 dollars. I decided i'd rather enjoy my four years of college (these four years you can never get back! and they're without a doubt the best years of your life..well at SDSU) and actually get a degree in Finance, then go to UCB, hate life and maybe not even get a degree in Finance.

However, I would have chosen either UCLA or UCSB over SDSU. In hindsight i'm kind of glad I got rejected by both places, because i'm absolutely loving life at SDSU, it's pretty laid back, I don't work that hard and I can still pull off a 3.5. Plus they're one of the few schools to offer a class geared to getting a certificate in financial planning (aka 60k starting salary out of school, which is higher than the average UCB HAAS student).

Thanks savedbythebell7, finally someone who doesn't talk bad about SDSU. After thinking about the schools I realized my favorites were UCSB and SDSU (I doubt I'll get in to UCLA). When I apply to schools, i'm sure ucsb and sdsu will still be my favorites and it will be one tough decision if i get into both. I haven't visited sdsu yet, but everything about the school sounds great. But right now i'd pick UCSB over SDSU, but maybe that will all change when i finally visit SDSU.

I'm enrolling in UCSB for Fall 2006, and honestly, between SDSU and UCSB... I'd go to UCSB. Both have insane parties, UCSB is the only campus in the nation with their own beach, both have great weather, and UCSB academics are stronger than SDSU's (it IS a UC school -- a highly regarded name), but the competition is not of the same intensity that you'll find at UCLA.

I say Cal Poly SLO.. I'm going there for the business program (marketing). It has a very strong business program... and it specifically HAS marketing and accounting which is what you want... and what the UCs don't have. If you go to a UC and plan to do business, you'll have to go to grad school for marketing or accounting. It also has nice weather, beaches, lots of partiers. I don't think it'll be that competitive either. Cal Poly seems to be the best fit! :)
