Which School should I choose? (UNC, UGA, UMD)

I’m having a tough time deciding where I would like to attend for undergrad. Personally, I think I’m weighing the pros and cons too heavily, but thought I’d ask everyone their opinions. I got into UGA for business, UMD (Letters and Sciences) and am finding out from UNC soon (so anything involving UNC is a hypothetical rn) I live in NC and live about 30 minutes away from Chapel Hill. It could be because I live so close but I have found the campuses (and campus life but not from experience) of UMD and UGA to be more appealing. Also, with UMD and UNC, I would have to apply for business after fresh-soph year. Clearly, UNC will come out to be less expensive, but cost isn’t a deal breaking factor. If anyone has experience with any of these schools I’d love to hear about 1. Campus life, 2. (for umd and unc) getting into business, 3. overall experience. Thanks!

D also was admitted to UMD Letters and Sciences. She’s truly undecided about her major, however, wants to keep Business majors available as an option. Smith is not easy to get into when you enter UMD. Reading about the process, it is highly competitive and you are basically re-applying to college all over again, including recommendations, leadership/EC activities and GPA. The average GPA of students entering Smith as internal transfers is 3.5 - 3.6 range. They also have some students bussed to the Shady Grove campus for business classes. If you pursue UMD, make sure to have a back-up plan/majoprs in case Smith doesn’t work out.

As a result my D has ruled out UMD as she feels her back-up plan is somewhat limited of majors she’s interested in (business relatable majors) and not at all confident about getting into Smith.

Thank you NJIUdad, I really appreciate the input. I had heard Smith was difficult to get into but definitely not like that. Also, I’m feeling the same exact way in terms of back up plans (Econ being the only one of interest)

Rydawg98, want to clarify that my post was not meant to dissuade you from UMD. Simply to state that Smith is competitive to get into as an internal transfer. I understand UMD’s Letters and Sciences does a good job of working with all students who have an interest in transferring to a business major to prepare them for their process, however, it is a competitive process.

Everybody is different. All else being equal (and it never is), if your heart is set on business and you’ve already been admitted to UGA’s Business School, that would be an advantage.

BTW, both my D and I loved the College Park campus. I was also fascinated by the student body there which is outstanding, very academically oriented and unique. I would have enjoyed attending UMD, however, for my D she felt that there are better fits for her.

NJIUdad,

I think I misworded what I was saying. Definitely am not dissuaded from UMD, just misworded some of my thoughts. Thanks for the advice!
