Ok, so i am definately applying to Northwestern, but I'm hoping someone can help me make the decision of which school to apply to. As of right now, i am interested in both journalism and medicine. I'm wondering if I should apply to Medill, major in journalism and take required courses for med school, or if I should apply to the science and arts, and just take classes at medill (if possible). But if I decide that journalism is really my option, how easy would it be for me then to switch into Medill? Also, would it be easier to apply to Medill than to the arts and sciences? (better chance of getting in?)
Thanks!

Medill is probably the hardest school to get into at NU. You also will not have access to any journalism class you want if you are not in Medill. Plus, it is very hard to transfer in. So, if you REALLY want journalism, you should definitely apply to Medill and just take pre-med classes in Weinberg on the side.

I was also interested in journalism and medicine when I applied to NU (chose Medill in the end). As dfleish said, if you really want journalism, then you should apply to Medill. I don't mean to dissuade you -- I'm an ex-Medillian now -- but you really need to consider if you want to be a journalist. Medical journalism was what really intrigued me, but you really don't need a journalism degree to pursue that, just a medical one. If you have any other question, feel free to PM me.

I am not sure if Medill is really the hardest school to get into. In the past, Weinberg and McCormick students have always had slightly higher SAT averages.

My impression is that Medill is very particular about the kind of student they select. It may not have as much to do with the SATs as much as one's ability and passion for journalism. It's select in that way.
