WHich school???????????????????--Urgent

Hi,
this is for a friend of mine...
Which school shold he attend, FSU ( florida) or St. John's( New york-queens).
He pretty much only applied to those schools and will probably trasnfer later to another institution.
Intended major: either Law or computer science.
- he is out-of-state for florida but got 30% aid.

Thank you for the help.

Also, if you stay at a certain college for your undergrad and then apply for a trasfer for-lets say- rice and emory, or U miami with a ~2.80-3.90 GPA or above, is acceptance guaranteed, or do any other factors count, including SAT scores from high school, etc??

-Oh, and can the student apply for trasfer at various schools, just like the regular freshmen admission process?

heeeeeeelllllllpp?
Up Up Up

I would go to St. John's. I don't think either one is any better than the other, but I would rather be in metro NYC than northern FL. Also, I heard that it is easy to do well at St. John's if you are motivated to work hard and then transfer.

I believe SAT scores and the HS transcript are used to evaluate transfers to some degree, but the college transcript is the most important. For something like Rice or Emory, I think a 3.5-4.0 GPA would be necessary coming from either St. John's or FSU. A student can apply to various schools just like for freshmen admission.

thank you for the help!!

From the schools your friend is looking to transfer into, it sounds like he likes warm weather. For that reason, I'd go to FSU.

The transfer admission process is similar to freshmen admissions. There is not guarantee for those with certain GPAs. For transfers, the acceptance rate also depends on how much room they have available that particular year. Some schools do not take many transfers; however, I do know that Rice in particular usually takes tranfers at a slightly higher rate than freshmen.

thank you raindrop
one question, should my friend be able to get into rice with 3.80, and recommendations, or more GPA form FSU easily or does he need a 3.90.
yes, this was exactly what he was thinking, we are just fed up with the cold winter here in NY.
Thank you once again

I don't know mark. You might want to try posting that on the Rice board or the Transfers board. I would imagine a 3.8 ish would be fine for UMiami, which is less selective than Rice and Emory.
