I currently attend Florida State University. My situation is sort of different than other peoples. I attended a theraputic boarding school, and the entire application process was difficult for me because my parents werent involved whatsoever and i couldn't leave campus AT ALL. It basically involved me just flipping through the college book and picking some schools. I applied to seven, got into six, including my top choice university of miami. After finding out i got in my mom told me she would not pay for any of the tuition, and that she refused to fill out the FASFA (she's crazy bc it would of got me grants!!!) anyways, i ended up having to go to fsu, since it was a state school, (even though i didt even apply here, still have no idea how i got in).

So i feel like i have a good "reason for transfer", for my application. I am prelaw but i havn't decided on a major yet. I think i might want to do buisness, and then do buisness law. My high school gpa was 3.3, but my hpa was like 3.9, (my freshman year hurt me a lot i was taking college courses that i couldn't handle at that time) and my last two years of high school i had a 3.7 gpa. My ft semester in college i have a 3.75 ad i am getting a 4.0 this semester equaling to a 3.9 overall gpa. i am on the deans list and in the national society of collegiate scholars.

Do i have any chance with spring admission to Rice, Duke, or fall admission to NYU stern, University of chicago, BU, or WAshinton???
honest advice please

I'd wait until your second year. Just keep in mind that NYU and BU do not guarantee to meet need, so those might be difficult.

Will your mom fill out the FAFSA this year?

I was going to wait until Spring, but she will fill it out now.(weird, i dont know why)

Duke doesn't take spring transfers, so you would have to wait until next year to apply there. Duke/NYU would be good for prelaw I'm not sure about the other schools. Good luck! :)

i think you've already missed the boat on most transfer deadlines, which are march 1st or 15th. you may need to wait until next year.

no nyu is april 1, and wash u. is april 15th, but i was actually aiming towards spring which isnt due until sept/october

i just meant in order to give yourself all the options you want.

Rice, Chicago, and BU are doable, but another year with your current performance would further strengthen your chances. BU and NYU, by the way, can be very tight with aid for transfers.

This is sort of off topic but how are you getting to a 3.9 from a 3.7 + 4.0?

that posh girl - it depends on the credit load...if the OP had a 3.75 with 12 credits and a 4.0 with 16 credits, it could make sense.

Even then it would be 3.88. The only way I have managed to calculate it to get to 3.9 is if the OP had 6 credits at 3.7 and 12 at 4.0 or 9 credits at 3.7 and 16 at 4.0.

maybe she meant each year...

Why is this any of your concern, Poshgirl?

Because I have 3.9 GPA with 7 As, a A- and am looking at one B bringing my GPA down to 3.84. I am wondering what kind of magic is involved here.

actually posh girl, if you follow my scenario (a 3.75 with 12 credits and a 4.0 with 16 credits) the math works out to a cumulative GPA of 3.89, which is very close to the OP's 3.9.

oh...to not worry about gpa anymore... :D

I'm at UF and the same thing happened to me. My parents didn't help me at all with the college process, and wouldn't pay for my out of state colleges after getting in. Bummer. I know BU and NYU accept more transfer students than others, but are really tight with aid. I would assume stern would be a lot harder to get into. Just give it a shot and see what happens! I found out from mine in a month probably. Good luck! Oh and is your name Liz? So is mine! :)

haha , i love the mathamatics going on with my gpa..
posh- i havetaken a language class which counts as 4 credits four both semester, my other class three credits, and i am taking two classes during the summer. i have worked it out on my calculator, but I'm pretty sure that my calculations are correct. lol anywhoo

lizbobiz- but your at UF! i would of applied there if i knew i was only going to be going to ONLY instate schools. Do you not like it? weird with the similar situation/ name thing haha. pm me -where are you applying
